Zushi

Overview

Zushi is a young martial artist appearing in the manga series Hunter x Hunter. Training under his master Wing at Heavens Arena, he pursues his goal of reaching the top floors through steady practice of Shingen-ryu kung fu. Earnest and straightforward, he serves as an early catalyst for Gon Freecss and Killua Zoldyck to learn about the existence of Nen.

Appearance

Zushi is a young boy who regularly wears a traditional martial arts gi.

Personality

Zushi possesses a highly serious, polite, and diligent nature, faithfully executing his daily training instructions. He exhibits distinct speech habits, including a signature formal martial arts greeting and specific sentence endings. Despite his earnestness, he can be somewhat airheaded and slow-paced, sometimes failing to tailor explanations of complex terms to novices or becoming easily distracted. Though he feels discouraged when confronted with extraordinary natural talent, he remains determined and persistent.

Abilities

Zushi is a Manipulator-type Nen user who mastered the basic technique of Ten after half a year of gradually opening his aura nodes. This application of aura significantly bolsters his physical toughness and recovery, allowing him to endure heavy physical strikes and rapidly regain his footing. His master evaluates his aptitude as a rare talent found in one out of a hundred thousand people. In combat, he relies on solid, continuous martial arts strikes.

Background

While competing at Heavens Arena, Zushi trained diligently under his master Wing. During a match on the 50th floor against Killua Zoldyck, his abnormal endurance allowed him to withstand powerful attacks, leading him to almost unleash the forbidden technique Ren before being shouted down by Wing. Later, despite feeling overshadowed by the prodigy-level growth of Gon and Killua who joined his master's instruction, he maintained his disciplined routine. He was once taken hostage by 200th-floor fighters such as Gido to force a match, but he continued his pursuit of martial mastery.

Relationships

Zushi holds deep respect for his master Wing and follows his guidance faithfully. He shares a close bond with his fellow disciples, Gon Freecss and Killua Zoldyck; though intimidated by their astounding genius, he maintains a healthy camaraderie with them. He was also targeted and used as leverage by Heavens Arena 200th-floor contestants, including Gido, Sadaso, and Riehlvelt.

Trivia

In the animated film adaptation Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission, it is depicted that he eventually achieves his goal and becomes a Floor Master at Heavens Arena.
