Overview

Knov is a character from Yoshihiro Togashi's manga series HUNTER×HUNTER. As a skilled professional Hunter, he is selected by Isaac Netero, the Chairman of the Hunter Association, to join the specialized Chimera Ant Extermination Team. Distinguished by his neat black suit and glasses, Knov is a composed and analytical individual who plays an essential support role, utilizing his spatial Nen abilities to manage logistics, transport, and covert insertion during the campaign.

Appearance

Knov initially presents a refined and handsome appearance, characterized by neatly styled black hair, a tailored black suit, and glasses. Following a traumatic experience while infiltrating the East Gorteau palace, his physical appearance alters dramatically: his hair turns stark white before mostly falling out, leaving him largely bald, his cheeks become gaunt, and he compulsively bites his fingernails from stress. In subsequent appearances, he wears a flat cap to conceal his hair loss.

Personality

Knov normally maintains a polite, calm, and highly analytical demeanor. Early in the campaign, however, his pride and reliance on logical reasoning led him to dismiss Killua Zoldyck's grave warnings about the enemy's strength as mere childish panic. Beneath his composed exterior lies a deeply caring and responsible individual; his withdrawal from direct combat was driven by the realistic fear that being captured and interrogated would compromise the team's insertion routes and destroy the operation. He holds immense gratitude for his comrades, considering Gon Freecss a hero and willingly devoting his own vast resources to secure medical care for him.

Abilities

Knov possesses exceptionally rare spatial Nen techniques. His primary ability, "Hide and Seek" (4th Dimensional Mansion), creates an isolated pocket dimension consisting of a four-story, 21-room building used to store and transport people or supplies. Communication inside is impossible, and rooms do not connect to each other. Access holes created on surfaces drop targets into room ceilings, while exiting via a room's door normally returns them to their entry point. Knov alone can use a Master Key to re-route exit doors to any entrance hole, or paint aura-based exit marks to direct exits anywhere. His offensive ability, "Scream" (Window to Open), forms a localized portal between his hands; closing the portal severs whatever is trapped within by transferring that space into his pocket dimension, bypassing physical durability.

Background

Selected by Chairman Isaac Netero alongside Morel Mackernasey, Knov joins the Chimera Ant Extermination Team to counter the threat in NGL and East Gorteau. After defeating enemy reconnaissance officers like Flutter, he undertakes a high-risk solo infiltration into the East Gorteau royal palace to establish portal entry points for the strike team. However, while concealing his presence using Zetsu, he encounters the terrifying aura of Shaiapouf, causing a severe psychological breakdown that forces his retirement from direct combat. Despite his mental trauma, Knov remains an invaluable support asset, rescuing critically wounded teammates Shoot McMahon and Morel Mackernasey. Following the operation, he funds state-of-the-art medical care to save Gon Freecss. During the Dark Continent expedition, he oversees logistics and personnel management at the intermediate staging base.

Relationships

Knov commands deep trust from Isaac Netero, who selected him to orchestrate the logistical backbone of the extermination mission. He shares a strong bond of mutual respect with his fellow team leader Morel Mackernasey, whom he rescues from the battlefield alongside Shoot McMahon. As the mentor to Palm Siberia, Knov is adept at handling her volatile personality while remaining genuinely protective of her well-being. Although he initially dismissed Killua Zoldyck's warning regarding the Royal Guards, he later gains profound respect for Gon Freecss, hailing him as a hero and personally funding his life-saving treatment. Conversely, his encounter with Shaiapouf leaves him with profound psychological trauma caused by the Royal Guard's malevolent aura.

Trivia

The concept and Japanese name of Knov's ability "Scream" (Window to Open) are believed to be inspired by the spatial-displacement powers featured in Hitoshi Iwaaki's manga Tanabata no Kuni. Because "Scream" can theoretically sever targets regardless of physical durability by cutting through space itself, fans often speculate that Knov was written out of the main battle to prevent him from easily defeating King Meruem. Additionally, during the Dark Continent arc, the Hunter Association aggressively searched for another Nen user with spatial capabilities comparable to Knov's, but was unable to find anyone matching his exceptional standard.
