Overview

Ikalgo is a character from HUNTER×HUNTER who initially serves as a troop captain in the Chimera Ant hierarchy under Leol. Although he is an octopus-type Chimera Ant, he eventually allies himself with the Chimera Ant Extermination Team.

Appearance

Ikalgo is an octopus-type Chimera Ant featuring red skin, thick eyebrows, and prominent thick lips. His physical form resembles a cephalopod with multiple legs.

Personality

Ikalgo is deeply loyal, honorable, and fiercely protective of his companions, willing to choose death over betraying his allies. He harbors a severe complex about being an octopus, longing to be a cool squid instead, and strongly dislikes being referred to as an octopus. Despite his rank, he has never taken a life and holds a strong moral aversion to killing.

Abilities

Ikalgo can transform one of his legs into an air gun, utilizing stored air in his head to shoot with sniper-level precision. Through Fleadom, he fires giant blood-nurtured fleas whose vertical jump height of up to two hundred meters enhances the velocity and range of his sniper shots; the saliva of these fleas prevents blood clotting, causing targets to bleed endlessly. His other ability, Living Dead Dolls, allows him to inhabit intact corpses, manipulating them and utilizing their physical traits and Nen powers, though he must rely on others to acquire bodies due to his reluctance to kill.

Background

In his past human life, Ikalgo lived in NGL alongside Welfin. Reborn as a Chimera Ant troop captain under Leol, he was dispatched to East Gorteau, where he engaged in battle with Killua Zoldyck. After refusing to reveal his allies' abilities and attempting suicide, he was spared by Killua, who admired his resolve. In turn, Ikalgo saved the critically wounded Killua following his fight against the Ortho siblings. Joining the Extermination Team, Ikalgo infiltrated the royal palace by possessing the body of Flutter to search for Palm Siberia, eventually confronting Welfin and Brovada in the underground facility.

Relationships

Ikalgo forms a profound bond of friendship with Killua Zoldyck after their battle, becoming an indispensable ally after saving Killua's life. He originally served as a subordinate to Leol. During the palace raid, he uses the corpse of Flutter to locate Palm Siberia, bringing him into conflict with Brovada and his former human-life companion Welfin.

Trivia

His name is widely considered to be a play on the character Squidward (known as Ikardo in Japanese), reflecting his ironic desire to be a squid despite being an octopus. In the 2011 television anime adaptation, his human past is briefly depicted showing him as a thick-eyebrowed NGL fighter wielding an assault rifle against invading Chimera Ants.
