Overview

Genthru is a character from HUNTER×HUNTER who serves as the primary antagonist of the Greed Island arc. Hired by Mr. Battera to play the game Greed Island, he posed as an ally in a collaborative group while secretly acting as the murderous player-killer known as the Bomber. Calculating and merciless, he spent years manipulating other players to collect spell cards efficiently before showing his true colors to strip them of their items.

Appearance

Genthru is a tall, slender man with grey hair, a thin face, and a notably long chin. He wears sunglasses over his eyes. His attire consists of a white coat paired with a blue capelet tied around his neck.

Personality

Genthru is extremely cunning, ruthless, and cold-blooded, showing no hesitation in killing others to achieve his goals. He acts as a master deceiver, willing to play the part of a cooperative ally for five years just to exploit people as disposable pawns. Despite his cruelty toward victims and rivals, he holds genuine bonds of camaraderie with his true partners, Sub and Bara, refusing to leave them behind during high-risk situations.

Abilities

Primarily a Conjurer, Genthru possesses high combat versatility across multiple Nen categories alongside superior martial arts skills. His technique Little Flower allows him to detonate objects or opponents he grabs, requiring him to protect his hands with Gyo to prevent self-harm. Countdown lets him attach a timer-based bomb onto a victim's body after touching them and verbally explaining the ability's rules; its counter speeds up with the victim's heartbeat. By pressing their thumbs together with Sub and Bara and uttering Release, the trio can detonate all active Countdown bombs simultaneously.

Background

Genthru entered Greed Island and joined a coalition of players seeking to clear the game through collective card gathering, acting as a key founding member for five years. All the while, he operated in the shadows as the feared Bomber. Once enough cards were secured, he revealed to the alliance members that he had secretly attached bombs to them, coercing them into handing over their cards before triggering the explosives. He subsequently tracked down Gon Freecss and his allies to secure the final required cards, resulting in a direct confrontation.

Relationships

Sub and Bara are Genthru's only true allies, with whom he shares absolute mutual trust. He viewed fellow coalition members like Nikkes and Zispeta, as well as players like Puhat, as mere stepping stones to be blackmailed or killed. He pursued Tsezgietra's team to take their remaining cards and ultimately engaged in a bitter duel against Gon Freecss.

Trivia

Because Little Flower requires Genthru to concentrate aura in his hands to guard against his own explosions, attentive opponents can tell whether a grab will detonate based on his Nen flow, a vulnerability he mitigates by maintaining aura on both hands during combat. His decision to create Nen abilities solely dedicated to killing is regarded within the series as an unusual and extreme focus for a Nen user.
