Overview

A character in Hunter x Hunter, Komugi is a young girl residing in the Republic of East Gorteau who holds the title of World Champion in the board game Gungi. Although she is blind and appears clumsy and unassuming in daily life, she is an unparalleled prodigy at Gungi. Brought to the royal palace to play against the Chimera Ant King, Meruem, her presence profoundly shifts his mindset and changes the course of the story.

Appearance

She is a young girl with messy white hair tied into two ponytails, thick black eyebrows, and snot constantly running from her nose. Being blind, she usually keeps her eyes closed, opening them only during Gungi matches. Her attire consists of a pink sleeveless frilled dress worn over a white long-sleeve shirt, and she uses a cane when walking.

Personality

Komugi is simple-minded, clumsy, and holds an extremely self-deprecating attitude toward others, viewing herself as a burden to her family. However, when it comes to Gungi, she approaches every game with absolute resolve, believing she must forfeit her life if she ever loses. Because of her blindness, she treats everyone without prejudice regardless of their appearance or status.

Abilities

Komugi possesses extraordinary strategic genius in Gungi, having won five consecutive world championships. Without realizing it, she awakened an Enhancement-type Nen ability that boosts her brainpower during matches to vastly elevate her intellect, constantly creating innovative moves during play.

Background

She played Gungi professionally to support her poor family of ten, fighting through brutal stakes where losing meant absolute failure. During the Chimera Ant arc, she was brought to the palace to entertain King Meruem with Gungi matches. After being gravely injured during an attack, she was treated and later chose to remain by Meruem's side, playing Gungi until both succumbed to fatal poison.

Relationships

She built a profound bond with Meruem through Gungi, exerting a transformational influence on his humanity. Neferpitou was tasked with healing her after she was severely injured, while members of the Extermination Team such as Killua Zoldyck and Palm Siberia helped transport and hide her during the palace invasion.

Trivia

In East Gorteau, professional Gungi players receive minimal earnings unless they win the world tournament. She speaks with a heavy rural accent and uses an informal regional pronoun for herself.
