Zazan

Overview

Zazan is a character from the manga and anime series HUNTER×HUNTER. She is a scorpion-based Chimera Ant who initially serves as a Squadron Leader. Possessing an appearance very close to a human woman, she harbors intense ambition and vanity. Following the death of the Chimera Ant Queen, Zazan breaks away from the nest along with her squad to establish her own kingdom in Meteor City, declaring herself the new Queen. She utilizes a unique Manipulator Nen ability to forcefully recruit followers and build an army without relying on egg-laying, setting her sight on global expansion before clashing with the Phantom Troupe.

Appearance

Zazan possesses a highly human-like upper body characterized by long wavy hair, sleek slanted eyes, glossy purple lips, and a remarkably voluptuous bust, paired with a large scorpion tail. Her attire originally consists of a tank top marked with a star symbol combined with bikini bottoms, which later changes to a highly revealing micro bikini. When she forcibly extracts her tail to sting herself, she transforms into a heavy reptilian, dinosaur-like monster with extremely hardened skin and a newly sprouted tail.

Personality

Extremely proud and vain, Zazan possesses a domineering personality and views those around her with condescension. She takes great interest in cosmetics, nail art, and personal presentation, reacting with visible annoyance whenever her clothing is damaged in battle. She holds extreme confidence in herself, arrogantly claiming that the original Queen's only accomplishment was birthing her, while dismissing traditional egg-laying as inefficient. Despite her self-centered and ruthless demeanor, she occasionally exhibits a big-sisterly attitude toward her subordinates, offering sharp criticisms alongside genuine praise for successful achievements.

Abilities

Zazan is a Manipulator-type Nen user who can also launch Emission-based attacks and strike directly with her sturdy scorpion tail to inject neurotoxins. Her signature Nen ability, Queen Shot (Aesthetic Rebirth Injection), allows her to inject target humans with her stinger, transforming them into grotesque monsters bound to her absolute command. Victims lacking sufficient stamina die during the process, and death of the user does not revert their physical mutations. By ripping off her tail and stinging herself, she can transform into a heavily armored monster form, retaining her consciousness while vastly boosting her physical defense and combat power.

Background

Operating as a Squadron Leader in NGL, Zazan captured the Hunter Pokkle and presented him to Neferpitou, indirectly introducing the concept of Nen to the Chimera Ants. Following the Queen's death, she left the colony to achieve her own sovereignty. Invading Meteor City, she set up a fortress and abducted local residents, transforming them into mutant soldiers to build a force. This intrusion drew the retaliation of the Phantom Troupe. During a heated duel with Feitan Portor, a scar inflicted on her face enraged her into transforming into her monster form. Though she temporarily gained the upper hand, Feitan unleashed his devastating Rising Sun technique, burning her to death.

Relationships

Zazan maintained command over several Chimera Ant subordinates, most notably Pike, a spider-type officer who served her with absolute devotion. Her capture of the Hunter Pokkle ultimately exposed the existence of Nen to the Chimera Ants. She harbored no reverence for the original Chimera Ant Queen, viewing her solely as the vessel that gave birth to her. In Meteor City, she engaged in a fatal battle with Feitan Portor of the Phantom Troupe, who ultimately destroyed her. Following her demise, her transformed thralls were confronted and eliminated by Phinks Magcub and the remaining Troupe members.

Trivia

Zazan's scorpion motif is often linked to Christian lore of the Seven Deadly Sins, in which the scorpion represents lust. Unlike many Chimera Ants who lack distinct genders, her strongly feminine physical features and speech patterns suggest she was originally a human female living in the NGL region prior to her rebirth. Among the various Squadron Leaders who branched out independently after the Queen's death, Zazan was the only one who successfully built an entirely self-sustained force through her own unique powers.
