Neferpitou

Overview

Neferpitou is a major antagonist in the manga series Hunter x Hunter created by Yoshihiro Togashi. Serving as the firstborn member of King Meruem's Royal Guard within the Chimera Ant hierarchy, Neferpitou is a Specialist-type Nen user of formidable strength. Characterized by a feline humanoid appearance and a deceptively youthful demeanor, the character combines innocent playfulness with extreme ruthlessness. As one of the core threats during the Chimera Ant arc, Neferpitou plays a crucial role in driving the narrative forward.

Appearance

Neferpitou features a feline humanoid appearance with cat ears, a tail, sharp claws, and fangs, combined with a youthful, neutral face. Physical anomalies include four pairs of fingers and insect-like joint seams on the knees. The short, wavy hair was initially depicted as blonde in early artwork before settling on silver or white, paired with red eyes. The outfit consists of a long-sleeved shirt with large buttons, shorts, and high socks. While presenting an ambiguous gender profile, official design sketches and the anime adaptation depict a feminine body shape with visible breasts.

Personality

Neferpitou exhibits a whimsical, fickle temperament, becoming easily absorbed in entertaining activities while remaining thoroughly indifferent to anything uninteresting. Speaking with the masculine self-referential pronoun "boku" and adding feline speech flourishes, the character initially displays a cat-like playfulness coupled with unfeeling cruelty toward foes. Despite this, Neferpitou possesses absolute, unshakeable loyalty to King Meruem. Over time, this devotion fosters emotional development, leading Neferpitou to display profound sincerity, humility, and willingness to self-sacrifice when protecting those valued by the King.

Abilities

As a Specialist Nen user, Neferpitou causes water divination leaves to wither and possesses an aura capable of intimidating strong fighters. The character can cast an irregular, multi-directional En extending up to two kilometers and cover that distance almost instantly with immense leaping ability. Nen techniques focus on puppetry: manipulating multiple bodies simultaneously with puppeteer constructs, summoning the surgeon doll "Doctor Blythe" via the tail to repair tissues or modify biological structures, and activating "Terpsichora," a demonic ballerina puppet that controls Neferpitou's body with Nen strings in 0.1 seconds to exert physical limits. Doctor Blythe requires absolute aura concentration, locks the user within a 20-meter range, and disables other Nen abilities.

Background

Born as the first of the Chimera Ant King's Royal Guard, Neferpitou initially captured the Hunter Pokkle to forcibly extract knowledge of Nen abilities through cranial interrogation. Shortly after, Neferpitou ambushed and killed Kite, converting his corpse into a manipulated puppet. When King Meruem showed deep concern for the injured human Gungi player Komugi, Neferpitou was tasked with healing her using Doctor Blythe. Facing an enraged Gon Freecss during the palace assault, Neferpitou broke their own arm as a sign of goodwill to complete the surgery. After guiding Gon to Peijing and revealing that Kite was truly dead and beyond resurrection, Neferpitou attempted to eliminate Gon to protect the King, only to be crushed by Gon's sudden, catastrophic power transformation.

Relationships

Neferpitou's primary allegiance is to King Meruem, serving him with unconditional loyalty and respecting his evolving choices. Alongside Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi, Neferpitou forms the elite trio responsible for guarding the King. Neferpitou acts as the primary nemesis to Gon Freecss after killing and desecrating the body of Gon's mentor, Kite. Additionally, Neferpitou develops a protective responsibility toward Komugi, driven solely by Meruem's deep attachment to her.

Trivia

The character's name is derived from a combination of the Egyptian deity Nefertem and "Pitou," a kitten character from the French children's book series Caroline et ses Amis. The unique reaction of causing a leaf to wither during the Water Divination test serves as an iconic illustration of Specialist Nen traits. Neferpitou remains one of the most widely depicted Chimera Ant characters in fan works and creative communities.
