Overview
Uvogin is a character from the manga and anime series HUNTER×HUNTER, serving as member #11 of the infamous thief organization known as the Phantom Troupe. Hailing from Meteor City, he is one of the founding members of the group and stands out as its physically strongest combatant. Despite his simple-minded and aggressive battle-loving demeanor, he upholds a strict principle of taking whatever he wants by force while remaining intensely loyal to his comrades and leader, Chrollo Lucilfer.
Appearance
Uvogin is a towering male giant defined by his wild hairstyle that evokes the appearance of a lion's mane. In his younger years, he possessed an afro haircut instead. On the lower region of his back, he bears the spider tattoo that signifies his position as a member of the Phantom Troupe.
Personality
Uvogin possesses a boisterous and battlefield-obsessed personality, thriving on single combat and high-risk assignments. He holds no regard for money or personal property, operating under the philosophy that anything he desires should simply be stolen by force. Despite this unruly attitude, he is surprisingly strict about punctuality. Although he appears simple-minded, he exhibits sharp tactical intellect in battle, analyzing enemy powers to formulate effective strategies. Above all, he maintains iron willpower and unyielding loyalty, stubbornly refusing to leak information about his allies even under severe torture.
Abilities
As an Enhancer, Uvogin ranks highest in arm-wrestling strength within the Phantom Troupe. His skin is durable enough to repel handgun and rifle bullets, and he can stop an anti-tank bazooka shell with a single hand. Even when paralyzed below the neck, he can overpower adversaries through biting or deafening roars. His primary technique, Big Bang Impact, is a straight punch focusing aura into his right fist using Ko, delivering destruction equivalent to a small missile with the goal of matching a nuclear warhead. He can also execute Hagan-dan, shattering bedrock with Nen-infused strikes to launch stone shards at targets.
Background
Raised in Meteor City, Uvogin was one of the founding members involved in the creation of the Phantom Troupe and participated in the historical annihilation of the Kurta Clan. During the Troupe's operations in Yorknew, he took on four members of the Shadow Beasts alone in the Gordeau Desert and defeated them with ease. Although briefly captured by Kurapika afterward, his comrades successfully rescued him. Driven by pride to settle the score, Uvogin sought a solitary rematch in a secluded canyon. Trapped by his opponent's specialized Nen constraints, he steadfastly refused to reveal any secrets, leading to his demise when his heart was crushed.
Relationships
Uvogin maintains unwavering loyalty and deep respect for Chrollo Lucilfer, the leader of the Phantom Troupe, who has known him since childhood. He shares a close bond with Nobunaga Hazama, another long-time companion from before the Troupe's founding; together, the two act as an exceptionally coordinated vanguard duo in battle. His ultimate opponent was Kurapika, the last survivor of the Kurta Clan, who defeated Uvogin by leveraging specialized Nen restrictions. Additionally, Uvogin clashed with the Shadow Beasts, the Mafia's elite enforcers, wiping out four of their members single-handedly.
Trivia
When the Phantom Troupe was originally being formed, Chrollo Lucilfer initially recommended Uvogin to be the leader, though Uvogin declined and insisted he would only join if Chrollo led the group. Official exhibition materials revealed that his mastery level of Nen reached a high tier designated as Tenbu, indicating significant remaining potential. In the animated film Phantom Rouge, his signature strike was depicted emitting a beam-like blast, accompanied by an added scene where his fighting partner pointed out the brief moment of vulnerability when executing the move.
