Overview
Aoi Todo is a major character in 'Jujutsu Kaisen', serving as a third-year student and Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerer at Kyoto Jujutsu High. Despite hailing from a non-sorcerer background, he boasts exceptional combat prowess and a powerful muscular frame. Todo is known for his eccentric personality, notably asking male opponents about their preferred type of woman before engaging in combat. Upon discovering that Yuji Itadori shares his exact preferences, Todo immediately accepts him as his ultimate best friend and brother, acting as a crucial ally and mentor.
Appearance
Standing approximately 190 centimeters tall, Todo has a heavily muscular physique, black dreadlocks, and black eyes. A large scar runs across his left cheek up to his forehead. In battle, he frequently fights stripped to the waist and wears a locket pendant containing photographs of Yuji Itadori and Takada-chan. After losing his left hand during the Shibuya Incident, he attached a vibraslap device to his arm.
Personality
On the surface, Todo appears arrogant and self-centered, frequently annoying peers with his reckless demeanor. Beneath his rough exterior lies a highly intelligent and analytical strategist who claims to possess an IQ of 530,000. He is a passionate fan of the tall idol Takada-chan and maintains strict personal hygiene. Todo forms a deep bond with Yuji Itadori, often indulging in delusional memories of a shared youth while acting as a devoted combat mentor to him.
Abilities
Todo combines immense physical strength and martial prowess with instant battlefield calculation. He is capable of unleashing Black Flash and utilizes Simple Domain taught by Yuki Tsukumo. His innate technique, Boogie Woogie, allows him to swap the positions of any two targets with cursed energy by clapping his hands. This extends to fake claps as bluffs and clapping against an opponent's hand. Following his hand injury, he developed Boogie Woogie Mod using a vibraslap, allowing up to 50 swaps per second.
Background
In third grade, Todo defeated a high schooler and was recruited into the sorcery world by Special Grade Sorcerer Yuki Tsukumo. Her intense training left him with his facial scar. Prior to the main story, he gained renown during the Night Line of 100 Demons by defeating five Grade 1 cursed spirits without using his technique, and one Special Grade using it. He bonded with Yuji Itadori during the Goodwill Event, serving as his battle mentor. Despite losing his left hand against Mahito in Shibuya, he rejoined the battle during the Shinjuku Showdown using a vibraslap device.
Relationships
Todo considers Yuji Itadori his sworn brother and best friend due to their shared taste in women, guiding him closely in combat. Yuki Tsukumo is his mentor who taught him Simple Domain and inspired his unique icebreaker question. He is devoted to the idol Takada-chan, using imaginary conversations with her for battle strategy. His Kyoto High classmates—including Noritoshi Kamo, Mai Zen'in, Kasumi Miwa, Momo Nishimiya, and Ultimate Mechamaru—view him as an eccentric while acknowledging his strength. He previously fought Megumi Fushiguro over a disagreement on female preferences.
Trivia
According to series creator Gege Akutami, Todo's concept was inspired by Kenpachi Zaraki from 'BLEACH'. His name was chosen to contrast with his heavy physique and for its phonetic feel. Despite his fierce looks, Todo is obsessed with hygiene, regularly using scented sprays—a trait that ironically annoys his female classmates.
