Overview
Kurusu Hana is a character in Jujutsu Kaisen who participates in the Culling Game. She serves as a vessel coexisting with an ancient sorcerer known as Angel from a thousand years ago. Driven by a childhood rescue that left her deeply devoted to Megumi Fushiguro, she strives to become a worthy person capable of standing by his side. Possessing a rare innate technique that can nullify and erase any jujutsu technique, she plays a vital role in aiding the Jujutsu High alliance to unseal Satoru Gojo from the Prison Realm.
Appearance
Hana features blonde curly hair cut into a bob with front bangs, alongside green eyes. Floating above her head is a glowing halo, and white wings protrude from her back. Her attire includes a sweater paired with tight pants and high heels. She carries a trumpet-shaped cursed tool in her hand, and later in the narrative she loses her right arm.
Personality
Hana is friendly, highly expressive, and speaks politely with proper honorifics to others. She maintains a close distance with people and possesses a genuine desire to rescue those in danger. Her defining emotional drive is her intense affection for Megumi Fushiguro, whom she regards as her destined partner, inspiring her to help others so she can stand as his equal. However, her romantic devotion makes her overly impulsive and prone to wild misunderstandings, such as interpreting an offer of help as a marriage proposal.
Abilities
Hana utilizes the innate technique Technique Extinguishment inherited from the ancient sorcerer Angel. This ability neutralizes all jujutsu techniques and barrier constructs, granting her unrestricted movement through colony barriers, alongside the capacity for flight. Her signature move, Jacob's Ladder, involves sounding her trumpet cursed tool to invoke a giant magic circle in the sky, releasing a blinding beam of light that purifies all curses and erases techniques. It can eliminate cursed objects within vessels and unseal the Prison Realm.
Background
During her childhood, Hana was raised in captivity by a large cursed spirit until she was rescued thanks to Megumi Fushiguro's Divine Dog, who visited the area alongside Satoru Gojo. This encounter inspired her to dedicate herself to helping others and ignited her long-standing affection for Megumi. She was later altered by Kenjaku into a suitable vessel and reincarnated with Angel, a sorcerer from a thousand years ago. Rather than suppressing Hana's consciousness, Angel chose peaceful coexistence. Joining Yuji Itadori and Megumi during the Culling Game, she provided the key power needed to break Satoru Gojo's seal.
Relationships
Hana harbors intense romantic devotion toward Megumi Fushiguro, viewing him as her destined partner ever since he inadvertently saved her in her youth. She shares a body with Angel, an ancient sorcerer who communicates through mouths appearing on her skin, maintaining a cooperative symbiotic relationship. She forms an alliance with Yuji Itadori and Fumihiko Takaba during the Culling Game. Satoru Gojo is connected to her past rescue and is later freed from confinement by her power. She and Angel oppose Ryomen Sukuna, whom Angel targets for destruction as the Fallen.
Trivia
Her family name Kurusu phonetically echoes the word for cross (cruz), while Hana aligns with the Hebrew name Hannah, meaning grace or favor. Her character design and abilities draw heavy inspiration from the Archangel Gabriel, featuring a trumpet cursed tool and a technique named after Jacob's Ladder from Genesis. Additionally, a panel depicting her reaching out to rescue soldiers in the narrative serves as a visual homage to Michelangelo's famous fresco The Creation of Adam.
