Choso

Overview

Choso is a major supporting character in Jujutsu Kaisen. He is the eldest of the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, a set of Special Grade cursed objects created over a century ago by Noritoshi Kamo, making him a hybrid of human and curse. After being incarnated into a human host in the modern era, he initially aligns with the curses. However, upon sensing that Yuji Itadori is his true blood brother, Choso switches sides to protect Yuji, dedicating his strength to fighting alongside the modern jujutsu sorcerers.

Appearance

Choso has dark, brownish-black hair tied into messy twin ponytails on top of his head, paired with dark eyes. A distinctive dark horizontal mark runs across the bridge of his nose, which alters its shape when he activates enhanced blood manipulation techniques. He wears a light-colored traditional Japanese robe under a dark purple sleeveless vest, complemented by a thick purple scarf around his neck and brown boots. As a Special Grade Cursed Womb incarnated into a human host, his physical form reflects his self-conceived image rather than the original appearance of his host.

Personality

Choso's personality is entirely defined by his unconditional devotion and sense of duty as the eldest brother. He firmly believes that an older brother must serve as an example, leading the way for his younger siblings even through trial and error. He harbors absolute hostility toward anyone who threatens his brothers, particularly despising his creator, Noritoshi Kamo (Kenjaku). Despite his stoic and intimidating presence, Choso carries deep regret for past civilian casualties and his choices. Once he recognizes Yuji Itadori as his brother, he demonstrates intensely protective, affectionate, and fiercely loyal behavior toward him.

Abilities

Choso utilizes Blood Manipulation, an inherited technique of the Kamo clan, allowing him to freely shape, harden, and direct his blood for versatile combat across all ranges. Due to his hybrid nature, he can convert cursed energy directly into blood, rendering him immune to fatal blood loss so long as his cursed energy remains. His blood is highly toxic to opponents, inducing severe poisoning upon contact. He possesses a unique innate sense that allows him to feel the status and death of his brothers from a distance. In addition to techniques like Piercing Blood, Flowing Red Scale, Blood Edge, and King's Wings, he developed his own original technique, Supernova, and can perform Simple Domain to counter domain attacks.

Background

Created over 150 years ago during the Meiji era as the first of the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, Choso was kept sealed as a Special Grade cursed object until he was stolen and incarnated into a human host in the present day. During the Shibuya Incident, he sought revenge against Yuji Itadori for the deaths of his brothers Eso and Kechizu. After defeating Yuji, an intense sensory revelation made him realize Yuji was his biological brother. Turning against his creator Kenjaku, Choso dedicated himself to protecting Yuji. He assisted the sorcerers during the Culling Game and protected Tengen, ultimately giving his life in the final battle against Sukuna by forming a blood barrier to shield Yuji from a catastrophic flame attack.

Relationships

Choso views Yuji Itadori as his precious younger brother due to their shared bloodline from Kenjaku, devoting himself entirely to protecting Yuji's life. He shared an inseparable bond with his younger brothers Eso and Kechizu, holding deep grief over their deaths. He harbors intense hatred toward Noritoshi Kamo (Kenjaku), whom he regards as the malicious perpetrator who manipulated his family's existence. During the mission to guard Tengen, Choso developed a strong bond of mutual respect and trust with the Special Grade sorcerer Yuki Tsukumo while fighting side-by-side.
