Overview
Kenjaku is a major antagonist in the manga series Jujutsu Kaisen. An ancient curse user who has survived for over a thousand years, he maintains his existence by transplanting his disembodied brain into different host bodies. In the modern era, he inhabits the corpse of Suguru Geto, pulling the strings behind major catastrophes such as the Shibuya Incident and the Culling Game. Driven primarily by intellectual curiosity and a desire for chaotic entertainment, Kenjaku masterminds a grand scheme to force the merger of humanity with Master Tengen, posing an unprecedented threat to the world of sorcery.
Appearance
Kenjaku's true form is a disembodied brain featuring human teeth and a mouth. When possessing the body of Suguru Geto, he appears as a man with long black hair, parted bangs, and dark eyes. A prominent horizontal scar with visible stitches spans his forehead, allowing the top of his skull to detach and reveal the brain within. He dresses in traditional Japanese garments, including monk robes and red attire adorned with floral patterns, accompanied by accessories such as earrings, jewelry, and beads.
Personality
Kenjaku is an exceptionally cold, methodical, and manipulative strategist who views both humans and cursed spirits as mere tools for his grand design. Backed by a millennium of experience, he maintains a casual, unflappable, and polite demeanor even when committing heinous acts. He approaches alliances strictly pragmatically without genuine empathy. His grand schemes are fueled by insatiable intellectual curiosity and a desire to witness unpredictable chaos, treating catastrophic events like elaborate games for his own entertainment.
Abilities
Kenjaku's innate technique allows him to switch host bodies by transplanting his brain, granting him access to the host's memories and innate techniques alongside his own. This process places a binding restriction leaving a stitched scar on the forehead. Possessing Suguru Geto, he utilizes Cursed Spirit Manipulation and its Maximum: Uzumaki, which compresses absorbed spirits into a high-energy assault while extracting their innate abilities, enabling him to gain Mahito's Idle Transfiguration. He also wields Kaori Itadori's Anti-Gravity System and can expand an open-barrier Domain named Womb Profusion. Additionally, he uses Reverse Cursed Technique, possesses the knowledge to turn sorcerers into cursed objects, and deployed the Special Grade Cursed Object Prison Realm to seal Satoru Gojo.
Background
For over a millennium, Kenjaku moved through history by switching bodies and striking contracts with ancient sorcerers to turn them into cursed objects for future reawakening. During the Meiji era, he possessed Noritoshi Kamo, conducting dark experiments that yielded the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings. Later, inhabiting Kaori Itadori, he gave birth to Yuji Itadori to create the ultimate host vessel for Ryomen Sukuna. After the death of Suguru Geto, Kenjaku acquired his uncremated corpse, using Geto's identity to execute the Shibuya Incident, seal Satoru Gojo inside the Prison Realm, and inaugurate the deadly Culling Game to prepare humanity for a forced merger with Master Tengen.
Relationships
Kenjaku used the bodies of Suguru Geto, Noritoshi Kamo, and Kaori Itadori as hosts throughout history. While inhabiting Kaori, he conceived Yuji Itadori as a specialized container for Ryomen Sukuna, and during his time as Noritoshi Kamo, he sired Choso and the other Cursed Womb: Death Paintings. He maintained a long-standing alliance with Ryomen Sukuna, ultimately entrusting his authority over the merger to him. Although he partnered with special grade cursed spirits like Mahito and Jogo for pragmatic gains, he ultimately consumed Mahito for his technique. He successfully sealed his rival Satoru Gojo in the Prison Realm, but was ultimately decapitated by Yuta Okkotsu with assistance from Aoi Todo.
Trivia
The name Kenjaku originates from a Buddhist term referring to a symbolic rope used to bind and save sentient beings. Among the fan community, he is commonly referred to by nicknames such as "Pseudo-Geto" or "Brain-flower." The conspicuous stitch scar across his forehead is not an unhealed injury, but rather an intentional binding restriction required for his body-swapping technique to function. Possessing a deep knowledge of varied eras and cultures, Kenjaku demonstrated a surprising passion for stand-up comedy during his encounter with sorcerer Fumihiko Takaba, admitting it was one of the most enjoyable experiences of his centuries-long existence.
