Overview
Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is the ultimate shikigami accessible through the Zen'in clan's hereditary Ten Shadows Technique in Jujutsu Kaisen. Positioned as an uncontrollable weapon of sheer destruction, no user of the technique throughout history had ever successfully tamed it in a ritual, leading it to be treated as a double-edged final resort to drag opponents into mutual destruction.
Appearance
Mahoraga is a towering humanoid figure standing roughly three to four meters tall—over twice the height of Fushiguro Megumi—with a noticeably stooped posture. Two pairs of wings protrude from its eye sockets, and a serpent-like tail extends from the back of its head. Hovering above its head is an eight-spoked wheel crest representing harmony and circulation, while a blade is bound to its right forearm. It wears tattered black hakama on its lower body. Visual features also include red eyes, exposed skin, a muscular build, and an anime-original emergence from a cocoon-like vessel.
Personality
Mahoraga exhibits no personal will, emotion, or self-awareness. It operates strictly as a cold, instinctual agent of destruction governed by the mechanics of the Ten Shadows Technique, executing relentless combat actions against designated targets without hesitation.
Abilities
Mahoraga wields the Sword of Extermination attached to its right forearm, which is charged with positive energy capable of eradicating cursed spirits instantly. It possesses immense strength and endurance, remaining operational even if reduced to minimal body parts. Its core mastery is absolute adaptation to all phenomena. Taking damage triggers a one-eighth turn of the wheel hovering above its head, healing its body while analyzing the phenomenon to develop defensive immunity and offensive countermeasures. This process advances in stages through repeated exposure or time, allowing a user or proxy soul to bear the burden of adaptation for it, eventually evolving attacks to slice through space and the world itself. However, it remains vulnerable to instant obliteration by high-output, single-hit attacks before adaptation completes, and adapted phenomena lose auxiliary beneficial effects like pull forces.
Background
In the Edo period, a Zen'in clan head used the un-tamed ritual against a Gojo clan head possessing the Six Eyes and Limitless technique, resulting in mutual death. In modern times, Fushiguro Megumi held the ritual as an ultimate suicidal resort. During the Shibuya Incident, a critically wounded Megumi summoned Mahoraga to force Haruta Shigemo into the ritual, but Ryomen Sukuna intervened and destroyed it with his Domain Expansion and a fire technique to nullify the battle. Sukuna later took control of Megumi's body and successfully tamed Mahoraga for the first time in history. During the Shinjuku Showdown, Sukuna deployed Mahoraga to dismantle Satoru Gojo's Unlimited Void and Limitless barrier, providing Sukuna the key to bypass Gojo's infinity before Mahoraga was finally destroyed by Gojo's high-output Hollow Purple.
Relationships
Fushiguro Megumi: Its modern technique user who, unable to tame it, utilized its ritual as a mutual-death trump card.
Ryomen Sukuna: Fought Mahoraga in Shibuya, later took over Megumi's body, became the first person to tame it, and weaponized its adaptation.
Satoru Gojo: Formidable adversary in Shinjuku whose Limitless barrier and Unlimited Void domain were systematically broken down by Mahoraga's adaptation.
Haruta Shigemo: A curse user forcibly included in the subjugation ritual by Megumi during the Shibuya Incident.
Yorozu: An opponent against whom Sukuna actively tested and used Mahoraga's adaptation mechanics during the Culling Game.
Trivia
Mahoraga's design and name derive from the Eight-Handled Sword of the Ten Sacred Treasures and the deity Makora of the Twelve Heavenly Generals (or Mahoraga). Ryomen Sukuna compared its essence to Yamata no Orochi. Among fans, it is fondly given nicknames such as "Makora." The original series creator publicly praised the anime adaptation's execution of Mahoraga's duel against Sukuna.
