Hanami

Overview

A character from Jujutsu Kaisen, Hanami is an unregistered Special Grade Cursed Spirit born from humanity's collective fear and awe of forests. Driven by the belief that nature can only be saved through the total eradication of mankind, Hanami acts as a major antagonist alongside other nature-born special grade curses such as Jogo and Mahito. Working in coalition with pseudo-Suguru Geto, Hanami seeks to overthrow human dominance and establish a world for cursed spirits.

Appearance

Hanami possesses a tall, highly muscular humanoid body with pale skin covered in black, leaf-and-branch markings that trace the musculature. The head resembles a fusion of an iron helmet and a skull, featuring two wooden branches growing like horns from the eye sockets. The left arm is kept draped in cloth, revealing a black limb with white fingertips and a hollow opening in the palm. A red flower bud named Kyōka, containing an eye in its center, rests on the left shoulder.

Personality

Despite being a cursed spirit, Hanami is remarkably calm, soft-spoken, and polite in manner. The desire to eradicate humanity stems entirely from a genuine concern for the preservation of Earth's natural environment. Although Hanami acknowledges the existence of kind humans, the curse firmly believes that mankind and nature cannot coexist. Hanami communicates through a unique, uninterpretable language whose underlying meaning is telepathically conveyed straight into the recipient's mind.

Abilities

Hanami utilizes an innate technique that materializes and manipulates plant life using cursed energy. Combat capabilities include sprouting massive roots from the ground, creating floating wooden spheres that shoot thorny branches, implanting cursed seeds that feed on an opponent's energy, and spreading flower fields to dull enemy fighting spirit. Through the flower on the left shoulder, plant vitality can be absorbed and converted into powerful beams. Hanami possesses extraordinary physical durability, though the eye-branches remain a weak spot. Advanced skills include Domain Amplification and the Domain Expansion Dai Kōkai.

Background

Formed when humans' intense fear of forests coalesced into an intelligent curse, Hanami first intervened in battle by rescuing a defeated Jogo from Satoru Gojo. Later, during an attack on the Kyoto Goodwill Event, Hanami overwhelmed several jujutsu sorcerers before fighting Yuji Itadori and Aoi Todo. After sustaining severe injuries from Satoru Gojo's Hollow Purple, Hanami escaped. During the Shibuya Incident, Hanami participated in the ambush to seal Satoru Gojo, but was ultimately pinned against a wall and crushed to death by Gojo's Limitless technique.

Relationships

Hanami shares a strong sense of camaraderie and mutual trust with fellow special grade curses Jogo, Mahito, and Dagon, while cooperating with pseudo-Suguru Geto to establish an era for curses. On the battlefield, Hanami fought various sorcerers from Tokyo and Kyoto Jujutsu High, engaging in an intense duel against Yuji Itadori and Aoi Todo. Satoru Gojo mockingly labeled Hanami a weed, yet Hanami repeatedly risked danger to aid allies against him.

Trivia

Among cursed spirits, Hanami holds a unique classification described as a spirit within the cursed spirit category. In official school-themed parodies and spin-off games, Hanami is humorously presented wearing a female sailor uniform on a towering, muscular frame, creating comical interactions alongside Jogo dressed in a male school uniform.
