Overview
Yu Haibara is a character from Jujutsu Kaisen, featured in the Hidden Inventory / Premature Death arc. He is a Grade 2 jujutsu sorcerer attending Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu Technical High School, where he is a junior to Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto, and Shoko Ieiri, as well as the classmate of Kento Nanami. Despite his tragic death during a high school mission, his cheerful nature leaves a profound impact on those around him.
Appearance
Haibara is a male high school student featuring short black hair cut in a mushroom style and dark eyes. He wears a plain white T-shirt under his black Tokyo Jujutsu High school uniform jacket, which he keeps unbuttoned at the front.
Personality
Haibara possesses an exceptionally bright, cheerful, and earnest disposition. He tends to focus on the good qualities of others, holding deep respect for those around him. Endowed with a healthy appetite, he thoroughly enjoys people and eating rice, expressing a preference for women with large appetites. Despite his easygoing personality, he demonstrates a protective family instinct by firmly instructing his younger sister, who can perceive curses, never to join Jujutsu High.
Abilities
Haibara held the rank of a Grade 2 jujutsu sorcerer while enrolled at Tokyo Jujutsu High. Because he was never depicted participating in active combat, the existence or specifics of any innate technique he might have possessed remain unconfirmed, though he participated in official field assignments such as airport security detail and curse exorcisms.
Background
Hailing from a non-sorcerer family, Haibara entered Tokyo Jujutsu High and formed a two-man class with Kento Nanami. In his first year, he assisted in guarding Naha Airport during the Star Plasma Vessel assignment. The following year, he and Nanami were dispatched to exorcise a curse. Because jujutsu higher-ups misjudged the curse as Grade 2 when it was actually a Grade 1 land deity, Haibara lost his life in battle. His sudden death deeply shook Suguru Geto, accelerating Geto's downfall into a curse user, while causing Nanami to temporarily abandon sorcery. Even posthumously, Haibara's influence resurfaces at pivotal moments, such as during Nanami's final thoughts in Shibuya.
Relationships
Haibara shared a close bond with his sole classmate, Kento Nanami, whose quiet demeanor sharply contrasted with Haibara's energetic personality. He held immense admiration for his senior, Suguru Geto, and maintained friendly relations with Satoru Gojo and Shoko Ieiri. He harbored deep concern for his younger sister, strongly advising her against becoming a sorcerer despite her ability to see curses. Although he never met Yuji Itadori in life, his spectral appearance before Nanami in Shibuya guided Nanami to leave his final words of encouragement to the boy.
Trivia
In side interactions from the mobile game Phantom Parade, Nanami notes that Haibara often returned borrowed notebooks filled with strange doodles, hinting at a tendency to forget his own supplies. Despite his brief appearance in the story, he secured 26th place in both the second and third official popularity polls, and has been featured in official merchandise for the Hidden Inventory / Premature Death arc.
