Overview
Dagon is a special-grade cursed spirit appearing in Jujutsu Kaisen. Born from humanity's deep-seated dread of the ocean, he acts alongside fellow disaster curses such as Jogo, Hanami, and Mahito. Initially existing as an unevolved Cursed Womb who spends his time peacefully within his innate realm, his affection for his allies and rage over their loss trigger his metamorphosis into a formidable, fully evolved combatant who poses a severe threat to jujutsu sorcerers.
Appearance
In his Cursed Womb state, Dagon possesses red skin and an octopus-like head featuring facial tentacles, wearing a hood and dragging caterpillar-like legs. Upon undergoing metamorphosis, he adopts a heavily muscular humanoid physique with fully formed arms and legs while retaining his red skin and dark brown eyes. In this true form, he also has low-positioned wings tipped with claws.
Personality
During his Cursed Womb stage, Dagon appears timid and quiet, communicating only through simple vocalizations. Despite his gentle demeanor, he harbors an intense devotion toward his fellow cursed spirits, viewing them as family. He is especially attached to Hanami, and learning of her death incites immense anger. Following his transformation, he displays a proud, ruthless personality fitting for a special-grade curse, fiercely asserting his identity and rejecting those who dismiss him and his companions as nameless monsters.
Abilities
Dagon utilizes an innate technique that generates and controls vast quantities of water alongside aquatic shikigami. He can deploy Water Array Wall as a protective barrier and release it as a submerging torrent, backed by vast cursed energy reserves, levitation capabilities, high durability, and formidable hand-to-hand combat skills. His Domain Expansion, Horizon of the Captivating Skandha, creates a tropical beach environment and can be triggered by drawing a mark on his own stomach. Within the domain, his technique Death Swarm summons unlimited predatory marine shikigami—including sharks, moray eels, and giant isopods—that only materialize the moment before impact, rendering them unevadable.
Background
Born from humanity's collective fear of the ocean, Dagon initially spent his time consuming large numbers of humans while offering his domain as a secure haven for Pseudo-Geto and his allies. During the Shibuya Incident, following the sealing of Satoru Gojo, he encountered sorcerers Naobito Zen'in, Kento Nanami, and Maki Zen'in. Although initially pressed by Naobito's Projection Sorcery, Dagon shed his outer skin and evolved into his true form out of pure rage over Hanami's destruction. He unleashed his Domain Expansion, inflicting critical damage on the sorcerers, but his sure-hit effect was neutralized when Megumi Fushiguro intruded with his own domain. Taking advantage of an opening created in the barrier, Toji Fushiguro entered the domain, commandeered the cursed tool Playful Cloud, and brutally overwhelmed Dagon, exorcising him before he could escape into the air.
Relationships
Dagon harbors deep affection for his fellow disaster curses—Jogo, Mahito, and Hanami—considering them his family. He is particularly attached to Hanami, which fuels his vengeance against the jujutsu sorcerers who killed her. He maintains a cooperative alliance with Pseudo-Geto, allowing his innate domain to be used as their retreat. In battle, he pushes seasoned sorcerers Naobito Zen'in, Kento Nanami, and Maki Zen'in to the brink, but his efforts are thwarted by Megumi Fushiguro's domain intervention and the violent intrusion of Toji Fushiguro, who ultimately ends his life.
Trivia
Dagon's name is derived from the deity Dagon featured in Semitic mythology and the Cthulhu Mythos, with his physical appearance taking inspiration from Cthulhu lore. His domain attack featuring aquatic creatures that materialize immediately prior to impact is considered an homage to the Oroso Brothers' technique in HUNTER×HUNTER. In the official character popularity polls, he placed 46th in the first poll (listed as the Water Cursed Spirit with 186 votes), 46th in the second poll (31 votes), and 69th in the third poll (7 votes).
