Overview
Yuta Okkotsu is a main character in the manga series Jujutsu Kaisen and its prequel series, Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School. He is a second-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High and one of only four Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerers. Originally slated for secret execution due to being haunted by the Special Grade Cursed Spirit of his childhood friend, Rika Orimoto, he was saved by Satoru Gojo and enrolled at the academy. A descendant of Sugawara no Michizane, Yuta is a distant relative of Gojo and possesses an astounding volume of cursed energy that surpasses even his mentor.
Appearance
Yuta is a lean young man with a slightly androgynous appearance and dark eyes that are noticeably larger than those of his peers. Initially featuring spiky black hair, his hairstyle later transitions into a medium-length cut parted in an eight-to-two ratio. Unlike the dark uniforms worn by other Jujutsu High students, he wears a distinct white jacket uniform to signify his status as a problem child. He wears a silver engagement ring on his left hand and carries a katana.
Personality
Yuta is exceptionally gentle, polite, and caring, though he initially presented a timid and withdrawn front out of fear that Rika would harm those around him. Through his experiences with his classmates, he regained his inner strength and learned to value life. He derives no joy from combat and tends to undervalue himself, viewing fighting merely as a means to protect others. However, when his friends are threatened, his calm demeanor turns into intense, uncompromising wrath against his opponents.
Abilities
Yuta wields the innate technique 'Copy,' allowing him to replicate the cursed techniques of others by connecting with 'Rika'—a cursed external storage of techniques and energy left by Rika Orimoto. After Rika's uncursing, copying requires 'Rika' to consume a part of the target's body, granting a five-minute window to use copied techniques such as Cursed Speech, Dhruv's Shikigami, Uro's Sky Manipulation, Angel's Jacob's Ladder, Charles's G-Warstaff, and Sukuna's Shrine. He excels at Reverse Cursed Technique, enabling him to heal himself and others or instantly eradicate cursed spirits by outputting positive energy directly. His Domain Expansion, 'Authentic Mutual Love,' manifests a domain filled with countless swords, allowing him to endlessly access stored copied techniques and assign one as a sure-hit attack.
Background
As a child, Yuta promised to marry his friend Rika Orimoto, but she was killed shortly after in a car accident. Unable to accept her death, Yuta accidentally bound her soul with his cursed energy, transforming her into a Special Grade Vengeful Cursed Spirit attached to him. Estranged from his family after Rika harmed several bullies, Yuta was taken in by Satoru Gojo and enrolled at Tokyo Jujutsu High. Through combat training and missions with his peers, he gained resolve and ultimately dispelled Rika's curse following a battle against Suguru Geto. Though briefly demoted to Grade 4, he quickly regained his Special Grade status, trained overseas, and returned to assist his allies during the Shibuya Incident and the Culling Game.
Relationships
Rika Orimoto is his childhood friend and fiancée; even after being uncursed, her lingering presence continues to aid him in battle as 'Rika.' Satoru Gojo serves as his teacher and is a very distant relative through Sugawara no Michizane. Maki Zen'in trained him in weaponry and physical combat, earning his absolute trust and respect. He shares a strong bond with his classmates Toge Inumaki and Panda. Among his juniors, Megumi Fushiguro deeply respects Yuta above all upperclassmen, while Yuta shows strong sympathy and support for Yuji Itadori, connecting with Yuji's burden of wielding powers beyond his control.
Trivia
Yuta enjoys cabbage seasoned with salt and sesame oil, while disliking fatty meat. His personal hobby and skill is making sculptures out of kneaded erasers. Visually, his hair and facial designs were updated over time to ensure he looked distinct from Megumi Fushiguro. Due to his incredible fighting strength and unwavering devotion to Rika—highlighted by his famous declarations during his duel against Suguru Geto—he earned the widely recognized moniker of 'Pure Love Warrior' among fans.
