Overview
Master Tengen is a central entity in Jujutsu Kaisen who resides in the Main Hall of the Tombs of the Star beneath Tokyo Jujutsu High. Serving as the essential lynchpin for the barriers erected across Japan, Tengen plays a foundational role in maintaining jujutsu society. Originally a human female, Tengen has transcended standard humanity over the course of centuries.
Appearance
Though originally possessing a female body, Tengen's physical form mutated into a unique humanoid shape featuring a cylindrical head, four eyes, and an indistinct gender. Tengen wears simple, light-colored monastic robes.
Personality
Despite harboring vast knowledge accumulated over centuries, Tengen displays an approachable and polite demeanor when greeting guests. Tengen communicates in a calm, civil manner rather than assuming an overbearing or distant posture.
Abilities
Tengen possesses the Immortality innate cursed technique. Because this technique does not halt biological aging, Tengen must periodically merge with a compatible host known as a Star Plasma Vessel to reset the body. Without this merger, the technique causes Tengen's body to evolve beyond humanity.
Background
For generations, Tengen has remained secluded deep within the Tombs of the Star, sustaining the protective barriers around Japan. After a past attempt to merge with the Star Plasma Vessel Riko Amanai was thwarted, Tengen underwent an evolutionary transformation rather than a bodily reset. Due to this long history and unparalleled understanding of barriers, Tengen holds pivotal information regarding the origins and crises of jujutsu society.
Relationships
Tengen engages with visitors seeking guidance, including Jujutsu High students Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Yuta Okkotsu. As a primary target of Kenjaku's overarching schemes, Tengen relies on formidable allies such as Choso and Yuki Tsukumo for protection.
Trivia
Often addressed with the respectful honorific 'Tengen-sama,' the character occupies a sacred status within the history of jujutsu despite having evolved past standard human classification.
