Overview
Zen'in Ranta is a jujutsu sorcerer from the series Jujutsu Kaisen. He is a member of Hei, the high-ranking elite unit composed of top sorcerers within the prestigious Zen'in clan. As a descendant of the 23rd clan head's siblings, he is a relative of characters such as Zen'in Naoya and Zen'in Maki. Unlike the majority of his family members who display arrogant and discriminatory behavior, Ranta is portrayed as a polite, humble, and conscientious young man.
Appearance
Ranta is a young male sorcerer whose facial features are noticeably distinct from other members of the Zen'in clan. When utilizing his cursed technique under heavy combat strain, the severe feedback causes blood to stream from his eyes, leaving him with severe ocular trauma during battle.
Personality
Ranta possesses a remarkably humble and earnest demeanor, standing out as a rare reasonable figure within the corrupt Zen'in clan. He speaks respectfully using polite language even to lower-ranking members of the non-sorcerer Kukuru unit and regularly wakes up early to clean the estate grounds. He also possessed a realistic understanding of Fushiguro Toji's terrifying capability, treating Toji's memory with respect rather than empty pride.
Abilities
As a member of the elite Hei squad, Ranta holds combat prowess equivalent to a Semi-Grade 1 sorcerer or higher. He uses an innate technique that summons a giant eye in front of his target, temporarily paralyzing the movement of anyone locked in its gaze. This provides powerful long-range support, capable of completely immobilizing even formidable targets like the awakened Zen'in Maki. However, any strain or attack delivered to the summoned eye feeds back directly into Ranta's own vision, carrying the severe risk of blindness and hemorrhaging under extreme exertion.
Background
Born into a branch line of the Zen'in family, Ranta was inducted into the elite Hei unit due to his capabilities. Kept ignorant of the clan leadership's internal political plots regarding inheritance, he was thrust into battle during Zen'in Maki's assault on the clan compound. Ranta fought alongside Zen'in Jin'ichi, sacrificing his own vision to temporarily freeze Maki, but was ultimately killed when Maki overwhelmed the clan forces.
Relationships
Ranta held deep respect for Zen'in Jin'ichi, serving as his informant during the crisis and sacrificing himself to support Jin'ichi in battle. Regarding Fushiguro Toji, Ranta understood that the clan only survived due to Toji's mercy, viewing him with intense caution and respect. He quickly identified Zen'in Maki as a threat equivalent to Toji. Additionally, his polite behavior earned him high admiration from members of the lower-ranking Kukuru unit.
Trivia
In the Kukuru unit's evaluation of the Hei squad featured in volume 17 of the manga, Ranta received a perfect score of 5.0 for his character and conduct. According to the official fanbook, although he belonged to the same overall family clan as Zen'in Maki and Zen'in Mai, his actual relationship with them was merely that of distant relatives.
