Overview
Doremy Sweet is a character from the Touhou Project franchise created by Team Shanghai Alice. First introduced as the Stage 3 boss and Extra Stage mid-boss in Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, she later became playable in titles such as Antinomy of Common Flowers. As a baku youkai, she serves as the authoritative ruler of the Dream World, monitoring and managing the interconnected dreamscapes of all living beings.
Appearance
Doremy Sweet has dark blue eyes and deep blue hair, which varies from shoulder-length to waist-length and is tucked inside a long, red Santa-like nightcap. She wears a black-and-white dress reminiscent of a tapir, accented with fluffy pom-poms, and features a cow-like tail. In Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, she wears short socks without shoes, holding a pink glowing dream soul in her right hand and a blue dream diary stamped with the letter D in her left. In Antinomy of Common Flowers, her outfit updates with a black capelet, white upper dress, white short boots, and a significantly elongated nightcap.
Personality
Doremy often presents a playful, aloof, and faintly sarcastic demeanor, sometimes making teasing facial expressions. Beneath this enigmatic exterior, however, she is exceptionally polite, earnest, and caring. She speaks with courteous language and takes her duties as guardian of the Dream World seriously, looking after dream entities with genuine warmth and empathy. At the same time, she possesses a subtle mischievous streak, occasionally playing minor pranks or exacting revenge on those who saddle her with troublesome responsibilities.
Abilities
She possesses the ability to erase, create, and exchange dreams, exercising complete authority over the interconnected Dream World. In combat, she can extract and absorb dream souls from opponents to power up her offensive abilities. Through her dream diary, she materializes various physical objects and combat phenomena, including transforming into a massive mechanical sheep entity. Additionally, she can generate numerous clones of herself to monitor different targets simultaneously and freely travel between the Dream World, Gensokyo, and the Outside World.
Background
As the keeper of the Dream World, Doremy entered the central narrative during the events of Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, when Sagume Kishin requested her help to create a simulated Lunar Capital within dreams to shelter the Lunarians. Although she fulfilled the request, she found the ordeal tedious and chose to redirect the human protagonists to the real Lunar Capital. During the later Perfect Possession incident, she deployed numerous clones to monitor dream selves that had escaped into the real world, assisting behind the scenes to maintain stability. She also briefly engaged in business within Gensokyo by selling specialized sleep pillows.
Relationships
Doremy shares a complicated working relationship with Sagume Kishin, having fulfilled her request to reproduce the Lunar Capital while subtly retaliating for the heavy workload. She keeps a close eye on Sumireko Usami within the Dream World, acting as both a protective supervisor and a mild teaser. Her influential authority over dreams earns her respect from key Gensokyo figures like Yukari Yakumo, who interact with her courteously during incidents involving dream realm leakages.
Trivia
Her given name Doremy derives from English terms like dreamy and dormancy (associated with sleep and REM cycles), while Sweet functions as an authentic surname evoking comfort. Her visual design blends real-world tapir traits—such as the black-and-white coat pattern on her dress—with classical Chinese folklore of the mythical Baku, which attributes a cow's tail to the creature. Her spell card Nightmare of Chimera in Antinomy of Common Flowers, which transforms her into a colossal mechanical sheep monster, spawned the popular fan nickname Doreking.
