Overview
Seiran is a character from the Touhou Project series, making her debut as the Stage 1 boss in Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom. As a moon rabbit serving in the covert operations unit of the Earth investigation corps known as Eagle Ravi, she is assigned to high-risk infiltration missions despite receiving meager compensation. Initially sent to Gensokyo as part of a vanguard force from the Lunar Capital, she later chooses to remain on the surface after the incident concludes. On Earth, she sets up her own mobile shop called Seiran-ya to sell dango sweets. By the events of Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost, she has grown thoroughly fond of the terrestrial realm.
Appearance
Seiran has light blue hair bound into low twin pigtails, striking red eyes, and long rabbit ears, with a yellow tag resembling a communication device attached to her right ear. She also possesses a short white rabbit tail. She wears a light blue dress featuring short puffy sleeves and decorated with moon and star patterns, under which she wears translucent bloomers. Her legs are clad in white frilled socks without any shoes. She carries a large wooden mallet nearly as tall as herself, the head of which is stained with a reddish-purple berry juice from pounding mochi.
Personality
Seiran possesses a bright, cheerful, and carefree disposition typical of moon rabbits. She approaches matters with a lighthearted attitude, rarely taking serious situations too gravely. Her sense of duty regarding her military assignment is somewhat lacking; after being defeated by Reimu Hakurei, she casually leaks the location of her squad's secret base near the mountain lake. Despite her easygoing nature and slight airheadedness, she displays a cold and relentless side once combat actually begins. Overall, she is an optimistic individual who enjoys her downtime—such as making mochi for her comrades—more than her official duties.
Abilities
Seiran possesses the ability to fire bullets from another dimension. By utilizing this capability, she can manifest and unleash dense bullet-patterned barrage attacks originating from alternate spatial planes. In combat, she employs spell cards such as Dangerous Bullet "Speed Strike," Bullet Sign "Eagle Shooting," and Gun Sign "Lunatic Gun." Additionally, like all moon rabbits, she inherently possesses telepathic abilities to communicate with her kin, though she rarely utilizes this power for serious or formal conversations.
Background
Originally residing in the Lunar Capital, Seiran served as a member of the Earth investigation unit known as Eagle Ravi. She was selected to join the vanguard force sent down to the surface world after losing a game of rock-paper-scissors. Tasked with covert infiltration—the most hazardous assignment in the corps—she endured extremely low pay and grew thoroughly exhausted while waiting in vain for attack orders from the Lunarians. During her mission, she was attacked by surface dwellers while pounding mochi for her squad during a break. Following the incident in Touhou Kanjuden, she opted not to return to the Moon, instead settling in Gensokyo to operate a dango stall called Seiran-ya.
Relationships
Seiran maintains a close yet competitive relationship with Ringo, a fellow moon rabbit from the Eagle Ravi unit. After settling on the surface, both opened rival dango businesses, with Seiran constantly striving to catch up to Ringo's slightly superior sales. She is also acquainted with Reisen Udongein Inaba, a former comrade from her military service on the Moon, whom she addresses in a casual, old-friend manner when meeting. During her initial mission on Earth, she clashed with Reimu Hakurei, inadvertently revealing the location of the secret lunar base after being defeated in battle.
Trivia
Creator ZUN clarified in an interview that the name Seiran was chosen to sound like a pet-like Chinese name rather than being derived from the World War II attack aircraft Seiran, despite sharing the same pronunciation. Her theme song title, "The Rabbit Has Landed," references Apollo 11's iconic lunar landing transmission "The Eagle has landed," as well as the classic war adventure novel of the same title. Additionally, the reddish-purple stain on her mallet led fans to humorously depict her as a violent "bludgeoning rabbit," though official material confirmed the stain is merely berry juice used for making dango.
