Overview

Tenkyuu Chimata is a god who serves as the final stage boss of Touhou Kouryudou ~ Unconnected Marketeers, the 18th mainline installment of the Touhou Project series. Known as the God of the Unowned, she governs physical marketplaces and possesses the power to strip away prior ownership from traded goods. After nearly fading from existence due to the modern decline of traditional open markets, she restored her divine strength by establishing a widespread magical card-trading ecosystem.

Appearance

Chimata has short blue-purple hair marked with white cloud patterns, topped with a rainbow-colored headband. Her eyes are blue-purple. She wears a patchwork dress arranged in sequential rainbow hues from the sleeves down to the hem, with its distinct fabric pieces bound together by zippers and yellow cords. A belt secures a yellow cloth pouch at her waist. She wears a long white cape featuring an inner lining patterned after a blue sky with white clouds. Her footwear consists of long pink boots, beneath which a yellow flame-like particle aura sways horizontally. Her signature pose features her right index finger pointing straight up and her left pointing down.

Personality

Chimata maintains supreme confidence in her divine authority, frequently adopting an arrogant and dramatic tone. Beneath her pompous facade, she exhibits a surprisingly sensitive and childish temper, readily becoming defensive when her merchandise or card rules are criticized. Her speech style shifts abruptly depending on the situation, fluctuating between polite customer-service phrasing, casual feminine speech, and high-handed divine declarations. Pragmatic yet incorrigibly optimistic, she does not dwell on setbacks and eagerly seeks out new opportunities to host trading markets.

Abilities

Chimata possesses the ability to relinquish ownership of traded items. Through formal market exchanges, she completely severs the emotional history and personal identity attached to an object, returning it to a state of absolute non-ownership so it can cleanly transfer to a new possessor. In battle, she utilizes cards containing duplicated powers that function under her ownership-severing rules, while firing vibrant rainbow-tinted bullet patterns and physical card projectiles.

Background

As traditional open markets vanished in the human realm, Chimata lost her faith and hovered on the brink of fading away. She was approached by the Great Tengu Iizunamaru Megumu, who suggested founding an Ability Card market on the mountain summit beneath a lunar rainbow. Through the widespread exchange of these cards, Chimata successfully restored her divine power. However, friction arose as Megumu viewed the market merely as a lucrative commercial business, whereas Chimata regarded it as a sacred divine ritual. Fearing Chimata's growing strength, Megumu covertly directed the protagonists to crash the market, leading to Chimata's defeat. Undeterred, she continues to look for ways to open new markets across Gensokyo.

Relationships

Her business partnership with Iizunamaru Megumu was built on mutual convenience and suspicion; though Megumu betrayed her to check her rising authority, the two still maintain an ongoing commercial line of communication. Kudamaki Tsukasa and Himemushi Momoyo were among the founding participants who traded cards during her very first market gathering. Additionally, she engages in later commercial collaborations with Yasaka Kanako.

Trivia

Her surname 'Tenkyuu' is an archaic word for rainbow (literally 'sky bow'), while 'Chimata' refers to a junction or crossroads, which historically served as the primary locations where people gathered to form markets. Her lore draws heavily from the medieval Japanese custom of 'Rainbow Markets' (Niji no Ichi), where trade was conducted under rainbows—regarded as sacred boundaries between the mortal world and the divine realm. Her patchwork outfit held together by zippers and ropes visually represents the changeable connections linking different domains.
