Overview
Sekibanki is a character from the Touhou Project series, introduced as the Stage 2 boss in Double Dealing Character. She is a rokurokubi youkai who disguises herself to live undetected among humans in the Human Village. Possessing a high level of pride and a cynical, detached demeanor, she tends to distance herself from both humans and youkai. During the events of her debut title, she became aggressive due to the magical influence of the Miracle Mallet, but returned to a docile state after being defeated.
Appearance
Sekibanki has short red hair tied with a blue bow, alongside red eyes. She wears a black long-sleeved shirt paired with a red miniskirt and black boots, with red embroidery detailing her clothing and footwear. She is draped in a red cloak with a blue lining, using its scarf-like collar to cover her mouth and conceal the neck seam that reveals her youkai nature.
Personality
Sekibanki maintains a aloof, prideful attitude and prefers a quiet, solitary life away from both humans and other youkai. She views popular trends and festive excitement with cynicism. Though naturally inclined to stay to herself, she can become overly confident and provocative when influenced by outside forces.
Abilities
She possesses the ability to detach her head and let it fly freely without harm. In battle, she can duplicate her disembodied head up to nine times to surround opponents, firing lasers directly from the eyes of the floating heads. She is also capable of extending her neck into a long, energy-like form during specific attack patterns.
Background
Sekibanki lived quietly in the Human Village, hiding her identity from the human population. When the Miracle Mallet's magical power spread across Gensokyo, it caused her to become hostile and cause trouble near the village. After being defeated by the protagonist, she lost her temporarily aggressive edge and reverted to her calm, quiet lifestyle.
Relationships
She was defeated by Reimu Hakurei and the other protagonists during the Miracle Mallet incident. In fan works, she is frequently associated with Wakasagihime and Imaizumi Kagerou due to their shared status as early-stage bosses in Double Dealing Character, and is sometimes paired with Tatara Kogasa as a fellow scaring youkai.
Trivia
Sekibanki's name is rendered as a single unit without a separation between first and last name. Her visual design, spell cards, and theme song title incorporate lore from various head-detaching and neck-extending monsters across cultures, including the Japanese rokurokubi (nukekubi), Chinese feitouman, and Irish dullahan.
