Overview

Toutetsu Yuuma is a character who first appeared as a major antagonist and playable character in the Touhou Project game Touhou Gouyoku Ibun ~ Suibotsushita Chinshuu Jigoku. As a divine beast taking the form of a lamb based on the mythical Taotie, she serves as the matriarch of the Gouyoku Alliance, leading the Eagle Spirits of the Animal Realm. She avoids unnecessary warfare, preferring to analyze situations calmly and capitalize on opportunistic gains.

Appearance

Yuuma has short, wavy bluish-white hair, red eyes with horizontal rectangular pupils, pointy ears with metal hoop earrings, and sharp, jagged teeth. She features curved red sheep horns tied with blue ribbons and stands relatively short. Her attire consists of a blue off-shoulder dress decorated with white Taotie motifs and eye prints, separate red sleeves, and bare feet. She carries a massive metal spork larger than her own body, which has ornate metalwork on its handle.

Personality

Despite her boundless greed and massive appetite, Yuuma is surprisingly rational, clever, and soft-spoken. Operating under the rule of securing the fisherman's profit, she disdains unnecessary bloodshed and waits for ideal moments to claim total victory. When confronting opposition, she rationally assesses whether to persuade, form temporary pacts, or retreat swiftly. Though she prefers independent action over direct group management, her strength and reliability earn her deep admiration from her subordinates.

Abilities

Yuuma possesses the ability to devour and absorb absolutely anything. Whether physical matter, spirits, direct attacks, or abstract desires, she consumes and converts them into her own power. Because attacks are digested like food, standard strikes cannot defeat her, and even if her physical structure is broken, she regenerates by consuming surrounding desires. What she swallows can alter her personality, and absorbing vast quantities of liquid allows her to assume a massive dragon-like form or expand into a gigantic entity.

Background

While rival factions clashed in the Animal Realm, Yuuma turned her sights toward the untapped petroleum reserves beneath the Former Hell of Blood Pools. She sought to monopolize the oil along with the immense desires embedded within it, but the resulting oil spills on the surface exposed her activities. Matara Okina arranged for Flandre Scarlet—whose power of absolute destruction could surpass Yuuma's absorption—to shatter her body. Following her regeneration, Yuuma yielded her absolute monopoly and agreed to co-manage the subterranean resource.

Relationships

Yuuma maintains a tense three-way rivalry with Kicchou Yachie and Kurokoma Saki in the Animal Realm while opposing Haniyasushin Keiki as a mutual enemy. After their conflict, she formed a professional arrangement with Matara Okina to jointly manage the underground oil reserves. Flandre Scarlet is uniquely positioned as the adversary capable of breaking Yuuma's physical form. Additionally, she shares a past relationship with Yakumo Ran and has taken Tenkairin Chiyari into her organization.

Trivia

Her species and name originate from the Taotie, one of the Four Evil Creatures of Chinese mythology famous for its insatiable greed, whose face is commonly depicted on ancient bronze ritual vessels. The name Yuuma phonetically references the word for oil in Japanese. Her choice of weapon—an oversized spork—combined with her white hair contrasting against dark petroleum has led fans to affectionately nickname her 'black sesame tangyuan' and 'demon sheep.'
