Overview

Kitashirakawa Chiyuri is a character from the PC-98 entry Phantasmagoria of Dim.Dream., the third game in the Touhou Project series. A human originating from a parallel universe whose scientific capabilities surpass those of Gensokyo by centuries, she is a youthful prodigy in comparative physics working as an assistant to Professor Okazaki Yumemi. In the game, she acts as the Stage 8 boss and becomes unlocked as a playable character after completing a standard run without continuing.

Appearance

Chiyuri features bright blonde hair tied in twintails and yellow eyes. Her standard attire is a short-sleeved white sailor shirt complemented by a blue sailor collar, a blue neckerchief, a matching hat, and white shorts. She also possesses a 2P alternate visual palette featuring a completely red sailor outfit, commonly referred to as Aka-Chiyuri.

Personality

Despite her remarkable intellectual credentials, Chiyuri adopts a very informal, blunt, and somewhat boyish manner of speaking. Though she addresses her academic superior, Okazaki Yumemi, with terms of deference like master, she interacts with her entirely without honorifics. While she maintains a solid bond with Yumemi, Chiyuri exhibits an aggressive practical side, unhesitatingly striking Yumemi with a steel folding pipe chair whenever the professor loses control.

Abilities

In battle, Chiyuri uses scientific magic created by Okazaki Yumemi and handles a device described as a small but lethal weapon. Her alternate 2P form instead wields authentic magic. Within bullet hell matches, she demonstrates top-class movement speed and quick gauge replenishment. Her tactical moves include launching angled laser Extra Attacks to pin down opponent movement, alongside visual screen flashes when initiating Boss Attacks.

Background

Hailing from an advanced parallel dimension where higher education begins early, Chiyuri graduated from university at age 11 and completed graduate school at 13. Specializing in comparative physics, she took on the role of assistant to Professor Okazaki Yumemi. To support Yumemi's research theories and gather empirical data, Chiyuri traveled across dimensional boundaries aboard the Probability Space Hypervessel into the domain of Gensokyo.

Relationships

Okazaki Yumemi is a university professor and Chiyuri's immediate supervisor. Despite their penchant for comedic bickering and physical altercations—such as Chiyuri subduing Yumemi with a pipe chair—they maintain a close professional and personal partnership. Hakurei Reimu is a shrine maiden of Gensokyo who openly criticized Chiyuri's unusual, boyish speech habits upon meeting her. Kana Anaberal is a resident of Gensokyo whose outfit attracts interest from Chiyuri's 2P alternate persona.

Trivia

Chiyuri's design elements and academic backstory draw heavy inspiration from Eriko Asagaoka in Izumi Takemoto's manga series Apple Paradise. During early game development, her internal placeholder name was listed as Eriko. Additionally, fan events established August 12th as Chiyuri Day, deriving the date from Japanese numerical wordplay on pipe chair (8-1-2) in reference to her iconic ending scene.
