Changli

Overview

A character from Wuthering Waves, Changli serves as the Counselor to the Magistrate of Jinzhou in Huanglong and acts as the mentor to Jinhsi. Previously holding the position of Secretary-General of the Central Secretariat in the capital of Mingting, she is a remarkably insightful strategist. Viewing the world through the lens of a Go game, she willingly places herself on the board to counter destruction and time, quietly maneuvering to secure lasting peace for the realm.

Appearance

Changli features pinkish-red hair with pale white feather-shaped tips resulting from a resonance mutation, along with golden eyes. Her Tacet Mark is located under her chest, and her left arm retains visible burn scars with light resembling flowing flames from past overclocks. Her outfit is a fantasy Chinese dress primarily in white with black and red accents, featuring a keyhole high-collar top, exposed shoulders and back, and detached sleeves. She wears a leg band, black over-the-knee socks, high heels, a fox mask, and a brush, adorned with motifs of phoenixes and Go boards.

Personality

Changli maintains a calm, refined, and polite demeanor toward everyone regardless of their social background. She acts as a patient and encouraging teacher to Jinhsi, while seamlessly enticing enemies into invisible traps through her deep grasp of human nature. Adhering to the principle of expressing inner resolve through actions rather than words, she stays poised even when misunderstood. Beyond her official duties, she is immensely fond of Go and enjoys sampling regional delicacies. Due to her resonance traits, her body temperature is naturally high.

Abilities

As a Natural Resonator wielding a sword, Changli channels the Fusion attribute via her resonance ability, Blazing Fire. She generates bird-feather-shaped flames of extreme temperature to restrict and engulf targets. In combat, executing aerial sequences or her Resonance Skill, Triangulation of Flames, shifts her into the Mind's Eye state to empower follow-up strikes. Landing these empowered hits or casting her Resonance Liberation builds Enflamement stacks; consuming four stacks allows her to unleash a high-damage heavy attack that reduces incoming damage. She can also create flame feathers that shield the carrier from heat damage while tracking their location.

Background

Changli lost her home and parents to a Tacet Discord outbreak during her youth. Left wandering alone, she suffered from frequent overclocks caused by her unmanageable fire powers until she was taken in by the master Xuanmiao Zhenren. Given the name Changli, she studied strategy and politics through Go. She later served as Secretary-General in Mingting, rebuilding charitable institutions and supporting Jinzhou's economic recovery. Seeking the destined guest mentioned in her master's final request, she relocated to Jinzhou to tutor young Jinhsi and assist with governance, eventually reuniting with the Rover to resolve an unfinished game of Go and past ties.

Relationships

Changli shares a deep trust with Jinhsi as both her teacher and subordinate, nurturing her dream of a peaceful realm since childhood. The Rover is the Guest foretold by her late master, Xuanmiao Zhenren; she places profound confidence in the Rover, presenting a sacred flame feather and pledging her constant presence. From her late master, she inherited her strategic wisdom and an unresolved Go match. She holds high regard for key Jinzhou figures like Jiyan and Sanhua, while sharing warm social interactions over meals with individuals such as Jianxin and Chixia.

Trivia

The name Changli originates from ancient texts where it denotes a mythical phoenix or bird of legend, serving metaphorically to describe individuals of extraordinary merit and wisdom. Due to her exceptionally high body temperature, she once successfully hatched an uninjured bird egg found in a damaged nest, though this trait prevents her from enjoying cold treats alongside companions. She has an impressive tolerance for spicy food, consuming fiery dishes from Mt. Firmament without hesitation. She also quietly funded the redesign of a bookstore that helped her during her youth.
