Overview

Ciaccona Toccata is a playable Resonator and wandering bard in Wuthering Waves who hails from Laguna in the region of Rinascita. Wielding dual pistols and harnessing the power of the Aero element, she travels the land with a free-spirited, passionate disposition. Rather than singing solely of grand miracles and heroic feats, Ciaccona dedicates her craft to recounting the complete spectrum of human experience—including tragedy, suffering, and painful farewells. Through her poetic tales and music, she preserves the memory of those who lived before, serving as a compassionate storyteller of the world's history.

Appearance

Ciaccona features vibrant red hair with M-shaped bangs, a cowlick, and side-bound locks, along with pointed ears and clear green eyes displaying cross-shaped pupils. Two tear moles are located beneath her left eye. On her head, she bears asymmetrical black horns accented with small blue-green flowers at their roots. Her Tacet Mark is etched into her right collarbone. She dresses in a white and green outfit featuring exposed shoulders, an open back, wrist cuffs, and high-heeled over-the-knee boots.

Personality

Ciaccona embraces freedom and romance with intense passion and sincerity, believing that truly loving the world requires acknowledging its tragedy alongside its beauty. Guided by the philosophy that farewells mark the beginning of reunions, she refrains from writing explicit goodbyes in her poetry. Although she presents herself humbly as a simple storyteller, she possesses deep empathy and a quiet resolve to endure hardship to preserve history's truths. Despite her rugged wanderer lifestyle—sleeping atop roofs and stone paths without complaint—she exhibits endearingly quirky traits, such as complaining about her horns interfering with sleep, wishing for a specialized nightcap, and curiously eating deer biscuits simply because of their name.

Abilities

Ciaccona's Resonance Forte, "Poem of All Creation," grants her the ability to reconstruct past events and memories by perceiving residual melodic vibrations left in the atmosphere. In combat, she wields dual pistols to inflict Aero damage. Her basic attacks and Resonance Skill, "Harmonious Tempo," apply the Erosion Effect to targets while summoning Ensemble Shadows. These phantom clones help maintain her Solo Performance state, enhancing the party's Aero damage output. Her Resonance Liberation, "Singer's Triple Splendor," triggers an impromptu symphony alongside her shadows, reducing her damage taken while generating colored main notes that deliver wide-area elemental strikes. Additionally, her heavy attack consumes stored rhythm stacks to pull nearby enemies.

Background

Ciaccona was born into the Toccata family of Rinascita, a lineage responsible for managing cathedral choirs. In her youth, touching a violin awakened her Resonance ability, allowing her to see visions of the past through melody. As she grew, helping townspeople write letters taught her that genuine poetry requires empathetic listening. Her family's fate turned tragic when the poets of the "Golden Song" discovered secrets regarding the Sentinel Imperator and Leviathan. Targeted by the Hidden Sea Church, the poets entrusted their secret study key to Ciaccona's father before dying aboard an exiled pilgrimage ship. The Church subsequently exiled the Toccata family under blasphemy charges, leaving young Ciaccona as the sole survivor. Inheriting the key and her family's legacy, she became a traveling bard to sing the suppressed truths of her homeland, eventually meeting the Rover in the town of Egla.

Relationships

Ciaccona maintains a close friendship with Coletta, who tasked her with tracking down the Rover. Upon meeting the Rover in the town of Egla, Ciaccona utilized her Resonance Forte to help them recover lost memories, while also offering caution regarding the Fisalia family. She shares a long-standing connection with Carlotta Montelli, who recalls listening to musical melodies floating from the Toccata family courtyard during their childhood years. Her deepest personal bond remains tied to her late father and the Toccata family, from whom she inherited the crucial key and the duty to keep their tragic historical legacy alive.

Trivia

Both names "Ciaccona" and "Toccata" are derived from classic Italian musical forms and dance genres. Her multi-stringed musical instrument is modeled after the theorbo, a variant of the lute that also originated in Italy. According to lore annotations, the asymmetrical shape of her horns may be the result of a past fall where one side snapped off. The title of her featured event quest, "But Thy Eternal Summer Shall Not Fade," directly references Shakespeare's Sonnet 18. Additionally, the catchy, rhythmic vocal line featured during her Resonance Liberation performance became a widespread fan phenomenon and popular material for community video remixes.
