Overview
Geshu Lin is a non-playable character in the open-world action RPG Wuthering Waves. As the former General of the Jinzhou Midnight Rangers in the nation of Huanglong, he led his troops with an unyielding determination to eradicate hostile entities known as Tacet Discords. During the catastrophic Battle of the Crescent, he ordered a reckless command against the Threnodian, resulting in heavy casualties among his forces before his sudden disappearance. Regarded by many in Jinzhou as a disgraceful criminal responsible for the deaths of his soldiers, others still recognize his brutal measures as the sole reason the city avoided total destruction.
Appearance
Geshu Lin has long white hair with black streaks and fringe falling between his eyes, paired with yellow or red eyes. A distinct Tacet Mark is visible on the front of his throat. His attire features decorative jewelry, including earrings and a bead necklace.
Personality
Fueled by an intense hatred for Tacet Discords, Geshu Lin demonstrates absolute ruthlessness when it comes to eliminating threats to humanity, unhesitatingly sacrificing his own forces if it secures victory. Though viewed as a cold commander willing to make extreme sacrifices, his harsh pragmatism stems from a desire to shield innocent civilians from harm. In his earlier days, he risked his life to protect a helpless family from monster attacks, revealing a noble conviction beneath his uncompromising demeanor.
Abilities
In combat, Geshu Lin commands black flames and wields a massive broadblade crafted from black stone. Even prior to unlocking his abilities as a Resonator, he possessed exceptional martial skills capable of matching elite swordsmen in battle.
Background
Prior to his rise as General of the Midnight Rangers, Geshu Lin was falsely accused of crimes by corrupt forces and targeted for execution by the assassin Qiu Yuan, who ultimately spared him upon recognizing his noble intent to protect civilians. Later awakening as a Resonator, he led Jinzhou's defense forces until the fateful Battle of the Crescent. Corrupted by the noxious miasma of the Threnodian, he pushed his army into a disastrous assault that decimated his ranks, vanishing from public sight in the aftermath.
Relationships
Jiyan previously served under Geshu Lin's command as a military doctor before taking over his position as General of the Midnight Rangers following his disappearance. Qiu Yuan encountered Geshu Lin years before the Battle of the Crescent; having spared him in the past, Qiu Yuan feels a deep personal responsibility for the catastrophic tactical failure that Geshu Lin later caused. During his final recorded battle, Geshu Lin clashed directly with the Threnodian.
Trivia
Due to his cinematic portrayal wielding a dark greatsword enveloped in dark fire, players widely speculate he would align with the Fusion element and broadblade weapon class if made playable.
