Rover

Overview

Rover is the main playable protagonist of Kuro Games' action title Wuthering Waves. Awakening on the planet Solaris-3 with no memories of their past, Rover embarks on a journey across various nations to uncover their true identity while fighting to protect civilization from the disastrous phenomenon known as the Lament. Possessing the extraordinary ability to absorb sound frequencies and Echoes directly into their body, Rover stands as a formidable sword-wielding Resonator whose mysterious origins are deeply intertwined with ancient custodians and world-saving organizations.

Appearance

Rover features black hair, bright golden eyes, and a distinct Tacet Mark located on the back of their right hand. They wear a predominantly black outfit paired with a uniquely styled personal terminal. Depending on the chosen form, the male appearance includes a sleek jacket and boots, while the female appearance incorporates a backless dress, ribbon accent, earrings, gloves, and thigh-high boots. They can also equip a school-uniform-style skin named Spark of Everlasting Light.

Personality

Although initially appearing quiet and reserved, Rover possesses a vivid emotional range and often displays a playful or pouting side during interactions. They are exceptionally sharp-witted and quick to grasp underlying truths in complex situations. Driven by an uncompromising resolve to save humanity, Rover refuses to allow others to sacrifice themselves on their behalf and willingly shoulders immense responsibilities to protect the innocent from danger.

Abilities

Wielding a Swiftblade, Rover has the unique Resonance ability Sound Vessel, allowing them to absorb Echoes directly into their body without relying on standard terminals. In combat, they seamlessly switch between multiple elemental frequencies. Their Spectro form manipulates light energy to create stasis fields that freeze targets; their Havoc form manifests a single black wing and a scythe to unleash devastating darkness attacks; and their Aero form executes airborne slashes, clears debuffs into wind effects, and restores health to team members.

Background

Originating from beyond Solaris over ten thousand years ago, Rover is an ancient entity who founded the Black Shores organization to combat the Lament before entrusting its management to Shorekeeper. After awakening without memories near Jinzhou, Rover was rescued by Yangyang and set out to reclaim their past. Recognized as a Master to Sentinels and designated as a Blank unconstrained by destiny, Rover played crucial roles in historical events, including saving Yuno from being erased from the world's causality.

Relationships

Yangyang is one of Rover's earliest companions who aided them upon their awakening in Jinzhou. Inside Rover's body resides Abby, a mysterious Echo who accompanies them on their quest. Rover shares deep ties with Black Shores members such as Shorekeeper and Camellya. Across their travels, Rover forms bonds with key figures including Jinhsi of Jinzhou, Lupa from the Seven Hills tournament, and Yuno, whom Rover rescued from conceptual nonexistence.

Trivia

The official English name Rover carries connotations of a wanderer as well as a planetary exploration vehicle. Starting from Version 2.0, players can freely switch Rover's gender in-game at any time, subject to a 24-hour cooldown period. The special outfit Spark of Everlasting Light was introduced in Version 3.1 as a reward for completing specific story tasks.
