Jiyan

Overview

Jiyan is a playable 5-star Aero Broadblade character in Wuthering Waves. He serves as the current General of the Midnight Rangers, the primary defense force stationed in Jinzhou within Huanglong. Originally a skilled physician from an esteemed family of doctors, Jiyan gave up his medical identity to take up arms and combat Tacet Discords. Resolute, calm, and swift in action, he leads his soldiers from the front lines to defend his homeland.

Appearance

Jiyan is a tall, muscular man with long green hair tied into a high ponytail and striking golden eyes. He wears tassel earrings, gloves, a belt, and long boots. His outfit features an outer jacket worn partially off one shoulder. His Tacet Mark is located on his upper back along the top of his spine.

Personality

Jiyan possesses a calm, decisive demeanor and executes strategy with swift efficiency. Beneath his stern military presence lies a deeply attentive nature inherited from his medical background. He quietly arranges medical aid and financial support for his soldiers behind the scenes. Although haunted by nightmares of battlefield losses, he remains steadfastly dedicated to fighting for both the living and the dead.

Abilities

Jiyan fights using an Aero-infused Broadblade. His Resonance Ability, Wind-taming Pursuit, condenses wind energy into a long lance and releases the power of a Qingloong. He utilizes aerial plunges, multi-stage slashes, and the lunging skill Windquell Lance. Activating his Resonance Liberation puts him in a Breakthrough state that raises interruption resistance and alters his attacks into heavy spear strikes. He expends accumulated Breakthrough points to enhance his abilities and provides coordinated off-field spear strikes via his Outro Skill. Highly aware of his physical limits, he has never experienced Overclocking.

Background

Born into a medical family, Jiyan was a gifted physician from childhood. However, after losing his close friend and mentor, Beiwang, during a fierce Tacet Discord attack, he realized medical science alone could not eradicate the crisis. He set aside his medical tools and joined the Midnight Rangers. Following the disappearance of General Geshu Lin in the Battle of the Crescent, Jiyan assumed command of the military and successfully repelled massive enemy waves to protect Jinzhou.

Relationships

Jiyan serves under Jinshi, the Magistrate of Jinzhou, and maintains a close friendship with the researcher Mortefi. He regards his predecessor Geshu Lin as a former superior and rival. Within the Midnight Rangers, Yanyan serves as his subordinate. Prior to joining the army, he received tactical instruction from his late friend and mentor, Beiwang.

Trivia

Jiyan's name is believed to reference the Tang dynasty general Hubai Guiren; where Hubai implies extinguishing flame, Jiyan translates to shunning fire. Additionally, developer Kuro Games temporarily registered a corporate subsidiary as Guangzhou Kuro Jiyan Technology Co., Ltd. in May 2023 shortly after a test phase.
