Overview
A kunoichi from Konohagakure featured in BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS. During her academy days, she served as the class representative for Uzumaki Boruto and their peers, who continued to call her "Class Rep" even after graduation. Beneath her gentle demeanor lies a complex past tied to a major incident in the village. She eventually joins the Scientific Ninja Weapons Team, serving as an assistant to Katasuke Toono.
Appearance
She is distinguished by long purple hair reaching near her waist and purple eyes. During her academy period, she wore her hair in twin braids, dressed in a sailor-style outfit with light purple culottes, and wore a purple violet-flower hair accessory left by her mother. During the Ghost Incident, she left her hair loose and wore a sleeveless purple top with black trousers. As a genin, she wore her forehead protector like a headband, bound her braided hair into a single tail, and wore a sleeveless top with black shorts. Upon joining the Scientific Ninja Weapons Team, she removed the forehead protector and transitioned to a dark purple dress and a student-like outfit with a necktie.
Personality
She possesses a quiet, polite, and gentle personality. When overwhelmed by her eccentric classmates, she frequently utters a characteristic flustered phrase. She is skilled at cooking and sewing. In her past, she suffered under severe training and emotional conditioning imposed by her late father to carry out revenge against the village, though she inwardly grieved over harming innocent people. After being freed from that hatred, she dedicated herself to becoming a ninja who helps others of her own free will.
Abilities
She relies primarily on Water Release techniques, using Water Release: Water Stream Wave to fire water bullets, Water Release: Water Formation Wall for defense, and the Water Clone Technique. She can also execute sealing jutsu such as the String Light Formation and its multiple-user variant, alongside the Transformation Technique. Due to harsh childhood training, her combat prowess during her academy days was exceptional enough to evade high-ranking ninja. Additionally, she holds a contract with the otherworldly summoned beast Nue.
Background
Her true name is Sumire Shigaraki. Imprinted with the Gozu Tennou seal by her father Tanuki Shigaraki—a former researcher for the Root organization—she was raised to be an instrument of vengeance against Konohagakure. Enrolling in the academy under a false identity, she orchestrated the Ghost Incident, but relinquished her revenge after being reached by Boruto. Following protective custody, she returned to the academy, graduated as a genin, and served in Team 15 under Hanabi Hyuga before transferring to the Scientific Ninja Weapons Team. Later, she assists in Kawaki's treatment, monitors Amado Sanzu, and proves to be one of the rare individuals immune to Eida's Omnipotence.
Relationships
Uzumaki Boruto is the savior who pulled her from the darkness of revenge, for whom she holds deep gratitude and affection. She shares a close friendship with Uchiha Sarada, with whom she shares immunity to Eida's Omnipotence, allowing them to exchange information on the altered reality. Shino Aburame and Sai supported her reintegration after the incident. In the scientific division, she works as an assistant to Katasuke Toono while maintaining a watchful eye on the defected Amado Sanzu. Her summoned beast, Nue, views her as a parent figure.
Trivia
She was originally introduced in the anime adaptation before being incorporated into the light novels and the main manga series. Having grown up in poverty, she has no disliked foods and enjoys fried bread crusts. Her hobbies include saving money and making pickles. It is suggested that her immunity to Eida's Omnipotence may stem from her unique connection to Nue.
