Overview

Yahiko is a character from the NARUTO series, hailing from Amegakure, the Hidden Rain Village. He was the original founder and first leader of the shinobi group Akatsuki. Orphaned during the Second Shinobi World War, he survived his harsh youth alongside fellow orphans Nagato and Konan. Driven by a intense desire for peace, he trained under Jiraiya before leading his companions in an effort to bring harmony to their war-torn homeland.

Appearance

Yahiko is defined by his short, spiky orange hair. His eye coloration varies depending on the medium, portrayed as blue in the original manga and brown in the animated series. During his childhood training years under Jiraiya, he wore a frog-themed costume alongside his fellow orphans.

Personality

Yahiko had an outgoing, high-spirited, and passionate demeanor. Although occasionally impulsive, he was fiercely dedicated to his friends and held a deep aversion to warfare, yearning to protect his village and achieve world peace. As a natural motivator, he placed absolute faith in Nagato, seeing him as the world's ultimate savior. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing.

Abilities

Yahiko was a user of Water Release ninjutsu, notably executing Water Release: Wild Water Wave, which generates a high-pressure, waterfall-like torrent of water from the mouth. During his youth, he teamed up with Nagato and Konan to use this skill against Jiraiya's clone. Following his death, his body was preserved and repurposed by Nagato to become the Deva Path of the Six Paths of Pain.

Background

After losing his family in Amegakure during the Second Shinobi World War, Yahiko joined forces with Nagato and Konan to survive. They were taken in by Jiraiya, who taught them ninjutsu and moral values over three years. Following Jiraiya's departure, Yahiko founded the original Akatsuki alongside like-minded shinobis to bring peace to their village. As the group expanded, Amegakure's leader Hanzo, conspired with Danzo Shimura, ambushed them and held Konan hostage. To prevent Nagato from making an unbearable choice, Yahiko impaled himself on Nagato's kunai, dying at age 15. Nagato later retrieved his corpse to serve as the Deva Path of Pain, and after Nagato's passing, Konan brought Yahiko's body back home to rest.

Relationships

Yahiko maintained the utmost respect for Jiraiya, who served as his teacher and father figure. Nagato and Konan were his lifelong companions; Yahiko firmly believed Nagato was destined to save the world. Conversely, he was targeted by Hanzo of the Salamander and Danzo Shimura, who viewed his growing organization as a political threat. He also encountered a masked man offering collaboration, though Yahiko flatly rejected his advances.

Trivia

Yahiko ranked 58th in the seventh official NARUTO popularity poll with 9 votes. Although he died at the young age of 15, his vision for peace and unwavering ideology served as a major catalyst for the main story's events.
