Uchiha Shisui

Overview

Uchiha Shisui is a featured character in NARUTO Shippuden, belonging to the Uchiha clan of Konohagakure. Widely feared and respected under the moniker "Shisui of the Body Flicker," he served the village as a high-ranking shinobi and Anbu member. Recognized as an exceptional prodigy with unmatched ocular illusions and speed, he dedicated his life to maintaining harmony between his clan and the village from behind the scenes. Though his time was short, his selfless ideals profoundly influenced the path of his fellow shinobi.

Appearance

Shisui features short black hair with a slightly wavy, spiky texture and a rounded button nose, a physical trait uncommon among members of the Uchiha clan. While his eyes are naturally dark, they turn red whenever his Sharingan is activated. He wears the traditional forehead protector of Konohagakure on his head alongside a dark, long-sleeved, high-collared garment.

Personality

Shisui is depicted as exceptionally sincere, compassionate, and deeply dedicated to preserving peace for both his village and his clan. He firmly believes that a true shinobi works selflessly as an unseen protector in the shadows without seeking personal glory. Wise beyond his years, he cautions others against allowing intense obsessions to stray them from the proper path. His willingness to sacrifice his own life and reputation to prevent conflict demonstrates his profound nobility and sense of duty.

Abilities

Shisui controls Fire, Wind, Lightning, and Yin chakra natures, and summons ravens. Master of the Body Flicker Technique, he moves at incredible speeds resembling teleportation and integrates fire-infused kunai into combat. He possesses a unique four-point Mangekyou Sharingan, enabling Kotoamatsukami—an ultimate genjutsu that alters a target's mind unknowingly. Additionally, he can manifest a green Susanoo armed with a drill lance, capable of firing countless chakra needles through Susanoo Tsukumo.

Background

As a descendant of Uchiha Kagami, Shisui quickly rose to prominence within Konohagakure, joining the Anbu at a young age. When tensions mounted and the Uchiha clan plotted a coup d'état against the village, he devised a plan to avert the crisis peacefully using his illusionary technique. However, before executing it, he was ambushed by Shimura Danzo, who forcibly stole his right eye. To prevent further violence over his remaining eye and to help his closest friend unlock the Mangekyou Sharingan, Shisui entrusted his left eye to his companion and cast himself into the Naka River, erasing his existence.

Relationships

Shisui shared a profound bond with Uchiha Itachi, acting as both a close confidant and a mentor figure who eventually received Shisui's left eye and moral mission. In contrast, Shimura Danzo was a hostile adversary who ambushed Shisui to seize his right eye. Genealogically, Shisui was a descendant of Uchiha Kagami, a respected shinobi of past eras. He also interacted with Itachi's younger brother, Uchiha Sasuke, offering him guidance regarding ambition and restraint.

Trivia

Despite limited screen time, Shisui enjoys massive international popularity, placing in the top five across all non-Asian regions in the global official poll NARUTOP99. His green Susanoo, featured primarily in video game titles, was custom-designed by series creator Kishimoto Masashi. Furthermore, Shisui's fundamental ideology—that a true ninja is an uncelebrated guardian supporting peace from the shadows—became the foundational core of Uchiha Itachi's character arc and choices throughout the series.
