Overview
Kawaki is a primary character in BORUTO: Naruto Next Generations and its continuation, BORUTO: Two Blue Vortex. Raised to serve as a vessel for Isshiki Otsutsuki, he is later taken in by the Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki, becoming an adopted member of the Uzumaki family. He stands as a key figure in the narrative, famously depicted in a flash-forward confronting Boruto Uzumaki amidst the ruins of Konohagakure.
Appearance
Kawaki features a distinct two-toned haircut with dark black hair on top and shaved blonde sides, accompanied by brown eyes and a facial mark with a piercing on his left eyebrow. On his left palm, he bears a diamond-shaped Kāma mark that spreads patterns across his body upon activation. He also wears facial jewelry, a jacket, a shirt, and earrings. In his older depiction, he is seen wearing a dark cloak and wielding a staff.
Personality
Having endured a tragic and abusive upbringing, Kawaki is initially defensive, sharp-tongued, and mistrustful of everyone around him. After finding refuge with Naruto Uzumaki, he gradually warms up to others. He develops an absolute, almost obsessive devotion toward Naruto, willing to take extreme measures to protect him. Despite his rough exterior, he demonstrates a protective and considerate side toward Hinata and Himawari.
Abilities
Kawaki's body has been extensively modified with Scientific Ninja Tools, enabling him to morph his limbs into sharp blades or defensive shields during combat. Furthermore, by drawing upon the power of the Kāma mark on his left hand, he can unleash enhanced physical abilities and chakra-based attributes.
Background
Kawaki was raised under the severe influence of Jigen to become the ultimate physical vessel for Isshiki Otsutsuki, undergoing painful physical alterations. After escaping his captors, he comes into contact with Boruto Uzumaki and is brought to Konohagakure. Placed under the care of Naruto Uzumaki, he moves into the Uzumaki household, slowly learning what it means to lead a normal life.
Relationships
He harbors profound devotion toward his adoptive father, Naruto Uzumaki, placing Naruto's safety above all else. His bond with Boruto Uzumaki is complex, functioning simultaneously as adoptive brothers, fellow Kāma bearers, and fierce rivals. He also forms a gentle familial affection for Hinata Hyuuga and Himawari Uzumaki.
Trivia
The iconic flash-forward scene introduced at the start of BORUTO: Naruto Next Generations, depicting an older Kawaki standing atop the destroyed Hokage Monument, serves as a pivotal framing point for the entire narrative.
