Oonoki is a character from the manga and anime series Naruto, serving as the Third Tsuchikage of Iwagakure in the Land of Earth. Known by the moniker "Oonoki of Both Scales," he is a veteran leader who guided his village through multiple shinobi world wars. Despite his advanced age, he remains an immensely powerful Kage and a central figure in international shinobi politics.

Appearance

He is a notably short elderly man with silver hair, black eyes, broad eyebrows, and a large bulbous nose. He has a bald crown and experiences severe back pain due to his old age.

Personality

Oonoki is obstinate, proud, and often cynical, frequently putting up a tough front to hide his physical frailties. Years of harsh experience and defeat hardened him into a pragmatic ruler who prioritizes his village's safety above all else. Though initially dismissive of younger generations, interaction with other leaders rekindles his conviction and determination, inspiring him to protect the future of the shinobi world.

Abilities

Oonoki possesses a rare technique known as Kekkei Tōta, allowing him to combine Earth, Wind, and Fire chakra natures to use Dust Release. His Dust Release techniques, such as the Detachment of the Primitive World, can reduce targeted matter to a molecular state. He is also skilled in Earth Release, utilizing techniques to manipulate gravity—enabling flight and altering the weight of objects or opponents—as well as creating rock clones, stone fists, and stone golems.

Background

Grandson of the First Tsuchikage Ishikawa and student to the Second Tsuchikage Mū, Oonoki rose to become the Third Tsuchikage, leading Iwagakure through major global conflicts. After surviving a devastating defeat by Madara Uchiha in his youth, he later played a key role during the Fourth Great Ninja War alongside the Allied Shinobi Forces. In his later years, he retired and passed his title to his granddaughter, Kurotsuchi, eventually passing away after exhausting his remaining strength to stop a crisis involving artificial beings he helped create.

Relationships

He is the grandson of the First Tsuchikage Ishikawa and the disciple of the Second Tsuchikage Mū. His family includes his son Kitsuchi and his grandchildren Kurotsuchi and Kozuchi. He trained pupils such as Deidara and Akatsuchi, and he formed alliances with fellow Kage like Gaara and Tsunade during the Fourth Great Ninja War. He also shared a bitter historical history with Madara Uchiha.

Trivia

The Fourth Great Ninja War officially began on October 8th, which coincided with Oonoki's 80th birthday. Having interacted with legendary figures from the era of the first Kage, he was one of the longest-surviving and most experienced shinobi of his time.
