Appearance
Katsuyu is a giant slug featuring a white body patterned with blue stripes along her back, and possesses grey eyes. Her distinctive visual design is often compared to a tube of toothpaste. Even when summoned jointly by Tsunade and Sakura Haruno using their full chakra, the portion that appears represents only one-tenth of her total, colossal physical size.
Personality
Biologically hermaphroditic, Katsuyu possesses a soft, feminine demeanor. Highly intelligent and remarkably humble, she is soft-spoken and extraordinarily polite, always addressing her summoners with respectful honorifics. Unlike other head summons, she displays total loyalty, calmness under pressure, and a gentle spirit.
Abilities
Katsuyu can freely divide her body into countless smaller clones using Katsuyu Great Division, rendering her immune to physical damage. Her clones share a collective consciousness and vision, allowing her to attach to allies to relay information, grant physical protection, and channel her summoners' medical ninjutsu across vast distances. For offense, she spits a highly corrosive acid known as Tongue Tooth Sticky Acid.
Background
Katsuyu has served as Tsunade's summoning partner since the Second Shinobi World War. During Pain's attack on Konohagakure, she split into innumerable clones to protect villagers and transmit intelligence to Naruto Uzumaki. In the Fourth Shinobi World War, Sakura Haruno also summoned her, allowing Katsuyu to heal the Allied Shinobi Forces and sustain Tsunade after severe injuries.
Relationships
Katsuyu maintains a master-servant relationship with her contract holders, Tsunade and Sakura Haruno. She forms part of the traditional three-way deadlock summons alongside Gamabunta and Manda, and later their successors Aoda and Gamakichi. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, she also cooperated with Orochimaru, Karin, and Suigetsu Hozuki to restore Tsunade's body.
Trivia
The name Katsuyu originates directly from the Chinese reading of the Japanese kanji characters for slug (蛞蝓). While fans and lore speculate that a Sage figure resides in the Shikkotsu Forest similar to Mount Myoboku and Ryuchi Cave, Katsuyu is the only representative of her realm shown in the main narrative.
