Overview

Kurotsuchi is a kunoichi from Iwagakure in the Naruto and Boruto series. As the granddaughter of the Third Tsuchikage, Onoki, she eventually steps up to succeed him, becoming the village's Fourth Tsuchikage and the first woman to hold the title. Introduced as a high-ranking ninja who serves as her grandfather's escort, she actively fights on the front lines during the Fourth Shinobi World War. In the era of peace, she leads her village as one of the Five Kage, balancing her assertive personality with a deep sense of responsibility toward her people and international alliances.

Appearance

Kurotsuchi is a female ninja characterized by her short black hair and dark grey eyes. In her later design, she wears a dress styled after a China dress with side slits that prominently display her bare legs. This distinct look showcases her mature appearance as she takes on higher responsibilities within her village.

Personality

Kurotsuchi initially displays a brash, tomboyish temperament with rough speech, referring to herself with the informal pronoun "atai." Over time, her mannerisms become more refined, shifting to "watashi" as she matures. Despite Deidara becoming a rogue ninja, she maintains fond affection for him, addressing him as an elder brother figure and sharing some of his headstrong traits. Upon assuming leadership, she balances her sharp-tongued nature with genuine compassion, often acting as a reasonable mediator and looking out for the younger generation.

Abilities

Kurotsuchi possesses Water nature chakra and utilizes the Lava Release kekkei genkai. Her Earth Release techniques include Kaidoshoko, which erupts soil from beneath the ground, and Doryusou, which creates rock spears for attack. With Water Release, she can emit a high-pressure jet using Mizurappa. Through Lava Release, she employs Sekaikyo no Jutsu to spit fast-acting quicklime that expands with water and solidifies rapidly to trap targets, as well as Kaisekifu no Jutsu to entomb enemies in ash stone.

Background

Born into a prominent bloodline in Iwagakure, Kurotsuchi grew up as the granddaughter of the Third Tsuchikage, Onoki. Prior to the Fourth Shinobi World War, she served as an escort to her grandfather at the Five Kage Summit and confronted Kabuto and the reanimated Deidara near Turtle Island. During the Great War, she was assigned to the Second Division, fighting Zetsu forces and joining the battle against the Ten-Tails. Following the war's conclusion, she succeeded Onoki as the Fourth Tsuchikage. Later, she joined forces with Naruto and the other Kage to combat the threat of Momoshiki Otsutsuki.

Relationships

Kurotsuchi is the granddaughter of Onoki, the Third Tsuchikage, and the daughter of Kitsuchi. She shares a close bond with her fellow disciple Deidara, affectionately calling him "Deidara-nii" and understanding his personality despite his status as a rogue ninja. She frequently works alongside Akatsuchi as a comrade. She built a lasting connection with Chojuro of Kirigakure from their youth, with both eventually becoming Kage of their villages. Towards Uzumaki Boruto, she displays a stern yet protective attitude, advocating for fair treatment during crises.

Trivia

Kurotsuchi holds the distinction of being the first female Tsuchikage in the history of Iwagakure. During their youth, she and Chojuro shared the exact same height, though Chojuro eventually grew slightly taller as an adult. In addition to her martial duties, spin-off works such as Shikamaru Hiden highlight her ongoing political challenges as a leader, including managing relations with ambitious feudal lords and navigating internal village disputes.
