Sasori maintains the physical appearance of a fifteen-year-old youth with short red hair and brown eyes, having converted his entire frame into a human puppet to halt aging. His artificial body features doll-like joints, retractable propeller-like blades on his back for flight and cutting, and a coiled poisonous cable inside his abdomen. His sole living organ is a cylindrical core embedded in his left chest bearing the kanji character for scorpion, which generates chakra and serves as his only vulnerability. He wears a ring with the kanji for jewel on his left thumb, sports painted fingernails, and frequently hides his real body inside the heavy scorpion-like puppet Hiruko.

His ultimate technique, Red Secret Technique: Performance of a Hundred Puppets, uses chest-emitted chakra threads to control one hundred puppets simultaneously, a force capable of taking down an entire nation. He also utilizes memory-blocking jutsu to turn captives into sleeper spies, fire emitters in his arms, and can transfer his vital core into secondary puppet bodies if his main frame is destroyed.
Background
Orphaned at a young age during the Second Shinobi World War when his parents were killed, Sasori was raised by his grandmother Chiyo, who taught him puppetry to alleviate his grief. After constructing puppets in the likeness of his parents, he grew disillusioned and eventually assassinated the Third Kazekage, deserting Sunagakure to join Akatsuki. During a mission to capture the One-Tail, he battled Haruno Sakura and Chiyo, meeting his end when his core was impaled by the very parent puppets he created. Later reanimated during the Fourth Shinobi World War by Yakushi Kabuto, his conversations with Kankuro allowed him to realize that true eternal beauty lies in the spirit passed on to future puppet handlers, enabling his soul to rest.
Relationships
Chiyo, his grandmother, taught him puppetry and eventually engaged him in his final mortal duel. Within Akatsuki, he was paired with Deidara, with whom he frequently debated whether art was momentary or eternal. He previously partnered with Orochimaru, whom he mistrusted enough to plant Yakushi Kabuto as a sleeper spy. Kankuro, a Sunagakure shinobi who wielded Sasori's earlier creations (Karasu, Kuroari, and Sansho uo), ultimately received Sasori's body puppet and parent puppets after their encounter. His title, Sasori of the Red Sand, originated from his battlefield history of staining the surrounding desert sands red with enemy blood. Puppets he crafted during his time in Sunagakure bear a distinctive scorpion mark as his personal artisan seal. Additionally, Sasori shares his birthdate of November 8 with Naruto series creator Masashi Kishimoto.
