Overview
Android 21 is an original character who plays a central role in the story mode of the fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ. Created as a bio-android engineered from the cells of various powerful fighters and brilliant minds, she possesses scientific intellect comparable to that of Dr. Gero. While presenting herself as a skilled researcher, her true origins and nature place her at the heart of the world-threatening turmoil surrounding the revived warriors.
Appearance
In her human form, Android 21 features long curly brown hair, blue eyes, black rectangular glasses, hoop earrings, and a ring. She wears a red-and-blue checkered sleeveless turtleneck dress under a white lab coat, paired with black detached sleeves, black pantyhose, and mismatched ankle boots. Upon transforming into her true form, her skin turns pink, her hair turns white, and she gains pointy ears, a long tail, and black eyes with red irises. Her attire changes to a black tube top and white pants, with black nails on her hands.
Personality
Android 21 possesses a distinct split personality. Her good persona is polite, calm, and hopeful, harboring a tender admiration for the concept of family despite having no memories of her past life. Conversely, her evil persona is a cunning, selfish villainess driven entirely by an insatiable craving to consume powerful fighters. The evil persona views all living beings merely as gourmet treats and quickly loses her temper if denied sweets.
Abilities
Android 21 utilizes a specialized beam to transform opponents into decorative sweets, allowing her to consume them to boost her own power. She can absorb energy via technique known as Tasting Cut, generate energy blades, fire sweeping lasers such as Photon Wave, and hurl large energy spheres like Absolute Release Ball. Her abilities also include extraordinary self-regeneration from minute cells, far-reaching clairvoyance, rapid technique copy, and instant teleportation.
Background
Completed by Dr. Gero's supercomputer years after his death, Android 21 was modeled after Gero's late wife, Vomi. Driven by subconscious instincts, she rebuilt Android 16—who was modeled on her deceased son—to keep him near her. Eventually, her evil persona took control of her actions, orchestrating the revival of defeated villains via the Dragon Balls and spreading clone warriors globally to satisfy her urge to feast on high power levels.
Relationships
Her original biological template was the wife of Dr. Gero and the mother of the youth who served as the basis for Android 16, instilling in her a deep connection to 16. While her good side yearns for the kind of family warmth she sees in Android 18 and Son Gohan, her evil persona dismisses Dr. Gero's legacy as pointless and ruthlessly disposes of anyone standing between her and her appetite.
Trivia
Android 21 was designed under the direct supervision of original series creator Akira Toriyama. The lore regarding her human counterpart, Vomi, was later subtly depicted in the feature film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero through background laboratory records.
