Gokua

Overview

Gokua, also known as Kogu in English releases, is a villainous character from the anime film Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound. Serving as one of the Galaxy Soldiers under the command of Bojack, he participates in the takeover of the Tenkaichi Dai-Budo Tournament. Distinguished by his use of a broadsword in combat, he is notable for being the only member of Bojack's henchmen who never regroups with his allies, fighting Future Trunks in a direct one-on-one duel.

Appearance

In his base form, Gokua has teal-blue skin, spiky orange hair, and a bandana worn around his forehead, wielding a large sword. Upon powering up into his transformed state, his skin shifts to green, his hair turns bright red, and his physical physique becomes dramatically larger and more muscular.

Personality

Gokua possesses a ruthless and battle-hungry temperament. Unlike his fellow Galaxy Soldiers, who frequently employ group tactics and ambushes to wear down their opponents, he exhibits a fierce self-reliance by engaging enemies in single combat. He shows no leniency toward his opponents, fighting with brutal intent.

Abilities

Gokua is a proficient swordsman who channels his combat ability through a broadsword. Like Bojack, he possesses the capability to transform, gaining a substantial boost in power and speed along with an expanded muscular build. In this powered-up state, his enhanced physical abilities allow him to overwhelm Future Trunks before the latter accesses his Super Saiyan form.

Background

Gokua came to Earth alongside Bojack and the rest of his crew, infiltrating the martial arts tournament organized by Mr. Satan's staff. Assigned to one of the battle zones, he encountered Future Trunks. Unveiling his powerful transformed state, Gokua gained the upper hand and put continuous pressure on the young Saiyan. However, once Future Trunks transformed into a Super Saiyan, the tables turned instantly. Gokua's sword was shattered by a single strike, and he was killed after being impaled through the abdomen by a powerful punch, becoming the first of the Galaxy Soldiers to fall.

Relationships

Gokua serves under the command of Bojack alongside fellow Galaxy Soldiers Zangya, Bido, and Bujin. Because he engaged Future Trunks immediately upon the takeover of the battle zones, he was defeated before he could regroup or fight alongside his teammates. Future Trunks stands as the opponent who brought about his definitive defeat.

Trivia

His name is derived from the Japanese word 'Gokuaku', which translates to 'atrocious' or 'heinous'. Due to being designed by Akira Toriyama, fans often point out visual similarities—such as his spiky hair, headband, and broadsword—between Gokua and Crono, the protagonist of the video game Chrono Trigger.
