Overview

Hirudegarn is a giant Phantom Majin who serves as the main antagonist in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon. Originally a statue on Planet Konats that absorbed evil energy, it was turned into a malevolent creature by a group of wicked sorcerers. It possesses immense fighting power and unique physical capabilities, having once brought Planet Konats to the absolute brink of total destruction.

Appearance

It boasts a massive, bony frame comparable in size to a Great Ape, paired with a skull-like face, heavily armored arms, and a tail. Upon molting into its evolved form, its body turns gold, gaining a pair of black horns on its head and large wings on its back.

Personality

Driven by pure instinct and destructive intent, it displays no signs of reason or speech. It mercilessly attacks populated areas, relentlessly devouring the life energy of inhabitants while leaving total devastation in its wake.

Abilities

Alongside breathing fire from its mouth and striking with its tail, it can extend tentacles from its tail to drain human life energy. Its key ability is shifting its body into an intangible, mist-like form to slip through all incoming attacks, though it briefly solidifies when striking. If pushed, it can molt like a cicada into an evolved state, gaining vastly heightened strength capable of knocking Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks out of fusion with a single hit and overpowering both Ultimate Gohan and Vegeta.

Background

A millennium ago, after laying waste to Planet Konats, it was subdued by the melody of Tapion and Minotia's ocarinas and sliced in two by a sacred priest using a legendary sword. Its upper half was sealed within Tapion and its lower half within Minotia, who locked themselves in music boxes and drifted into space. Centuries later, the sorcerer Hoi tracked them down to unleash the monster on Earth. After defeating several Z Fighters, its pattern was exposed by Son Goku, who obliterated it using his Dragon Fist technique.

Relationships

It was originally defeated and sealed inside the brothers Tapion and Minotia. In the present era, the wicked wizard Hoi orchestrates its complete resurrection, leading to a catastrophic battle against Son Goku, Son Gohan, Vegeta, and Gotenks.

Trivia

The character's name originates from staff member Seiichi Hiruta, combined with a Japanese sound effect representing shock. The film is also notable for introducing Son Goku's iconic Dragon Fist technique.
