Shenron
Shenron is a powerful dragon god from the Dragon Ball franchise who manifests when all seven Dragon Balls scattered across the world are assembled. Created by Earth's Guardian breathing life into a dragon model, he serves to fulfill any wish requested by his summoners—regardless of their moral alignment—provided the request does not surpass the inherent limits of his creator's power.
Overview
Shenron is a powerful dragon god from the Dragon Ball franchise who manifests when all seven Dragon Balls scattered across the world are assembled. Created by Earth's Guardian breathing life into a dragon model, he serves to fulfill any wish requested by his summoners—regardless of their moral alignment—provided the request does not surpass the inherent limits of his creator's power.
Appearance
Shenron manifests as an enormous, serpentine Eastern dragon covered in green scales, boasting a muscular body structure and a head with brown antlers, whiskers, sharp teeth and fangs, and red eyes. His appearance is accompanied by the sky turning black, though the overall scale of his size varies considerably whenever he is summoned.
Personality
Shenron addresses his summoners with a stern and imposing demeanor, demanding their requests in a formal manner. Over time, he displays a more humorsome impatience when people hesitate or argue over their wishes, occasionally complaining or threatening to depart if left waiting too long. Despite his intimidating presence, he acts completely subservient and highly intimidated when encountering beings of superior divine status, such as the God of Destruction Beerus.
Abilities
Shenron possesses the power to grant wishes within the boundaries of his creator's strength, including resurrecting the dead, bestowing youth, granting wealth, and unlocking latent capabilities. Initially limited to fulfilling a single request per summoning, his capacity was expanded up to three wishes after Dende succeeded as Guardian and through specific enhancement rituals. However, he cannot reverse deaths from natural causes or illness, force actions upon individuals far stronger than his creator without consent, or grant the exact same wish twice.
Background
Originally brought to life by Earth's Guardian using a model crafted by Mr. Popo, Shenron has been summoned countless times throughout history by heroes and villains alike. Bound to the life force of his creator, he turns to stone whenever the Guardian dies or assimilates into another being, but was later reanimated when Dende assumed the role of Earth's new Guardian.
Relationships
Shenron is bound to and maintained by Earth's Guardian—originally Kami and later Dende—as well as Mr. Popo. He holds profound fear toward Beerus, the God of Destruction. Other dragon entities created through similar magic across the universe include Planet Namek's Porunga, the Ultimate Shenron, the galaxy-sized Super Shenron, and Cereal's Toronbo.
Trivia
A prototype concept for Shenron appeared under the name Dragon Pao (Ronpao) in the precursor manga Dragon Boy. If a summoner dismisses Shenron without utilizing all remaining available wishes, the cooldown period required for the Dragon Balls to regain their power is reduced.
