Overview
Appearing from the God of Destruction Champa Arc of Dragon Ball Super, Champa is the God of Destruction responsible for Universe 6. As the twin brother of Universe 7's God of Destruction Beerus, he presides over the destruction and balance of his realm under the supreme authority of Zeno. He shares his divine duties alongside Supreme Kai Fuwa and is constantly accompanied by his attendant and teacher, the angel Vados. Driven more by food and petty selfishness than divine majesty, he frequently serves as a comedic catalyst for major conflicts across universes.
Appearance
Champa has a feline humanoid form with purple skin, yellow eyes, cat ears, a short tail, and no hair on his head. Due to lack of exercise and overeating, he has a noticeably plump, round body build. He goes shirtless on his upper body and wears red-based ancient Egyptian-style attire, consisting of pants accompanied by jewelry such as a neckpiece, wristbands, and earrings.
Personality
Lazy, selfish, and petty, Champa easily gets worked up over minor issues and frequently throws loud tantrums. He lacks divine dignity and displays a worldly demeanor, constantly engaging in childish rivalries with Beerus. Despite these flaws, he possesses a strong sense of common sense, morality, and responsibility, showing empathy toward good people and honoring his promises to others. When faced with the absolute erasure of his universe, he displays surprising grace and composure, accepting his tragic destiny with quiet resignation and dignified maturity.
Abilities
As a God of Destruction, Champa possesses immense power virtually equal to his brother Beerus, capable of effortlessly overpowering the strongest warriors of Universe 6, such as Hit and Cabba, all at once. In combat, he can unleash homing ki blasts, planet-shattering kicks, and massive energy waves. A serious clash between him and Beerus risks destroying both Universe 6 and Universe 7. However, due to decades of neglecting his training and his heavy physical build, his overall combat effectiveness is considered slightly inferior to Beerus's.
Background
Champa initially operated covertly in Universe 7 searching for the Super Dragon Balls, incidentally causing the resurrection of Frieza after destroying a faction of his remaining forces. Following a dispute with Beerus over a birthday cake dessert, their rivalry shifted into culinary contests, which led him to organize a martial arts tournament between Universe 6 and Universe 7 for the right to Earth's food. During the Tournament of Power, he assembled a team of diverse fighters to represent his universe. Though Universe 6 was ultimately eliminated and erased, Champa maintained his rivalry with Beerus until his final moments before eventual restoration.
Relationships
He shares an intense sibling rivalry with his twin brother, Beerus, the God of Destruction of Universe 7, with whom he constantly bickers over petty matters. His attendant and martial arts master, the angel Vados, regularly teases him with sharp remarks about his physical shape and laziness. He maintains a coexistent divine partnership with Supreme Kai Fuwa and submits to the absolute authority of Zeno. He commands fighters including Hit, Cabba, Frost, Caulifla, and Kale, though he often grows frustrated by their uncooperative behaviors.
Trivia
His name is derived from the alcoholic beverage champagne. Created by original author Akira Toriyama as a direct contrast to Beerus—who was modeled after his own pet cat and the Egyptian god Anubis—Champa was deliberately designed with a round body and a shortened tail. In video games, he is frequently portrayed through comedic story routes and unique techniques that reflect his chaotic relationship with his brother.
