Overview
Zangya is an antagonist appearing in the anime film Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound. She is a surviving member of the Hera Clan, a race of alien conquerors that once terrorized the universe. As the sole female warrior among Bojack's crew of invaders, she plays a prominent role in their scheme to conquer Earth. Combining high combat proficiency with a cold demeanor, she acts as a key lieutenant alongside her fellow Hera Clan comrades during their confrontations with the planet's defenders.
Appearance
She has blue skin, pointed elf-like ears, slanted eyes, and long orange curly hair that extends down toward her legs. Her outfit is designed with a pirate motif. Her overall color scheme, along with the jewelry and metal fittings adorned on her attire, shares a unified aesthetic matching that of Bojack and her fellow crew members.
Personality
Described by the epithet "Flower of Evil," Zangya is a cruel and merciless warrior. She exhibits a callous disposition in combat, taking pleasure in overwhelming her opponents without showing any leniency. However, her composure shatters when confronted by strength far beyond her comprehension; upon witnessing a terrifying display of power, she becomes paralyzed by intense dread.
Abilities
She possesses formidable combat strength capable of defeating Earth's top fighters with ease and overwhelming opponents even in their transformed state. When powering up to full strength, her hair temporarily stands on end. Her arsenal includes Psycho Thread, a binding technique that paralyzes foes and drains their energy as they struggle, which is especially lethal when executed in tandem with allies. She also utilizes Shoot Blaster, a massive energy sphere exceeding her own height, and Sky Zapper, a rapid rush martial arts attack.
Background
As a remnant of the Hera Clan, Zangya arrived on Earth to facilitate Bojack's conquest. She infiltrated the Tenkaichi Budokai by eliminating and impersonating a galaxy warrior participant, easily defeating Krillin in battle. Later, she teamed up with her comrades to corner Son Gohan. However, after Son Gohan unleashed his Super Saiyan 2 transformation and swiftly killed her allies, she froze in pure terror. Capitalizing on her paralysis, Bojack stepped behind her and launched an energy beam through her to use her as a human shield, resulting in her instant vaporization. She later made a brief reappearance in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn among the resurrected forces of Frieza.
Relationships
She serves as a loyal subordinate to Bojack, though he ruthlessly sacrifices her as a shield without hesitation when pressed. She coordinates closely in battle with fellow Hera Clan members Bujin and Bido. In combat, she easily dispatches Krillin, though she is later terrified by the immense power of Son Gohan upon his awakening. In spin-off video games, her past encounter with Krillin sparks a one-sided rivalry with Android 18, who views Zangya with hostility.
Trivia
Her name is derived from the Japanese word zangyaku, meaning cruelty. In her debut film, she has virtually no spoken dialogue during combat other than battle cries and a single unfinished sentence, making almost all of her lines in subsequent video games original. In the Super Famicom game Dragon Ball Z: Super Butouden 2, entering a hidden command after Bojack defeats Zangya causes Bojack to utter an apology for his actions in the movie. In Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2, Bojack's act of betraying her is officially incorporated as a special attack named Dirty Criminal.
