Overview

Kale is a female Saiyan warrior originating from Universe 6 in the animated series Dragon Ball Super. Serving as a loyal subordinate and close sisterly companion to Caulifla, she represents her home universe as a key contestant during the Tournament of Power in the Universe Survival Saga. Although normally soft-spoken, hesitant, and extremely timid in daily life, she harbors immense latent combat power that allows her to undergo a fearsome transformation into an overwhelmingly powerful Super Saiyan state capable of pure destruction.

Appearance

Kale normally wears her black hair tied back in a single ponytail and accessorizes with gold bracers and earrings. Her standard outfit consists of a red crop top paired with a matching red miniskirt secured by a brown belt, underneath which she wears black bike shorts. She completes her attire with red socks and golden loafers. Upon transforming into her berserk Super Saiyan state, her body gains massive muscularity, her eyes lose their pupils to become completely blank, and her hair turns green.

Personality

Kale has a timid, gentle, and deeply introverted demeanor, often lacking confidence in her own capabilities. She is intensely devoted to Caulifla, whom she views with profound respect and emotional attachment. When she perceives that Caulifla's attention is being diverted toward Cabba or Son Goku, her feelings of jealousy and inadequacy trigger an explosive mental shift, unleashing an uncontrollable rage. Beneath her fierce transformed state lies a strong desire to support Caulifla.

Abilities

While initially appearing weak, Kale possesses immense latent energy. Her berserk Super Saiyan transformation grants her extraordinary physical strength and resilience, enabling her to overwhelm Son Goku in his Super Saiyan Blue form and walk directly through incoming blast attacks. In this form, her muscles expand dramatically alongside a glowing green aura. She eventually learns to master this energy into a controlled Super Saiyan form, and can also fuse with Caulifla using Potara earrings to become Kefla.

Background

Hailing from Universe 6, Kale lived alongside Caulifla before being recruited to compete in the Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super. Chosen to fight for her universe's survival during the Universe Survival Saga, she struggled early in the tournament with feelings of helplessness, which triggered an uncontrollable transformation. Through her strong bond with Caulifla, she ultimately mastered her overwhelming power, engaging in intense combat against Son Goku and utilizing Potara fusion to fight for her universe.

Relationships

Kale shares an undeniable bond with Caulifla, admiring her as a leader and sister figure whom she wishes to stand alongside. She experiences deep feelings of jealousy toward Cabba and Son Goku whenever Caulifla shows interest in their strength, which repeatedly triggers her power awakenings. During the Tournament of Power, she faces Son Goku as a formidable adversary, battling him directly in high-stakes encounters.

Trivia

Her name originates from the leafy green vegetable kale. Her muscular transformed state and fighting style serve as an explicit homage to Broly from the classic movie series, leading fans to refer to her as 'Onna Broly' (Female Broly). This fan nickname was later officially referenced by the film director during promotional interviews for the Dragon Ball Super Broly movie.
