Degesu

Overview

Degesu is a character appearing in the anime series Dragon Ball DAIMA. A Glind originating from the Demon Realm, he serves as the right-hand confidant and close advisor to King Gomah, the ruler of the realm. As the younger brother of the East Supreme Kai Nahare and Dr. Arinsu, he plays a role as a scheming and ambitious villain within the story.

Appearance

Degesu strongly resembles his older brother, the East Supreme Kai, but possesses a larger build. He has pink skin, pointed ears, purple eyes, and white, spiked hair styled upright. He wears earrings reminiscent of Potara, a white cape, gloves, and traditional martial arts attire featuring long sleeves.

Personality

Degesu is a cunning and cowardly small-time villain driven by strong ambitions for power. He acts subserviently toward powerful individuals, trembling in fear before King Gomah, his intimidating older sister Dr. Arinsu, or powerful warriors like Super Saiyans. Conversely, he shows a cold and ruthless side to weaker opponents, showing no hesitation in striking down defenseless targets. He looks down on his older brother's involvement with mortals and harbours enough deceit to abandon his master for personal gain.

Abilities

Despite belonging to the same Glind race as the Supreme Kai, Degesu possesses limited combat capabilities and is unlikely to be a true combatant. While capable of knocking out Dende with a hand-chop and shoving aside a shrunken Mr. Popo, he is easily rendered unconscious by a single hand-chop from a child-form Piccolo. Powerful combat forces such as Super Saiyans or Majin Buu reduce him to sheer terror.

Background

Born from the same tree as his siblings Nahare (the East Supreme Kai) and Dr. Arinsu, Degesu chose to remain in the Demon Realm out of personal ambition and became King Gomah's chief advisor. After witnessing the defeat of Majin Buu, he traveled to Earth with King Gomah and Neva, using Shenron to turn Son Goku and his allies into children. When Goku's group breached the Demon Realm royal castle, Degesu attempted to flee with a kidnapped Dende to usurp the realm's throne. However, his plan was thwarted by Glorio and Piccolo, leading to his capture and subsequent 99-year imprisonment inside a magic jar by Mahrba.

Relationships

While acting as the right-hand man to King Gomah, Degesu harbored secret plans to overthrow him and claim the Demon Realm throne. His relationship with his older brother, the East Supreme Kai Nahare, is strained and icy, with mutual resentment. He is utterly terrified of his older sister, Dr. Arinsu, unable to assert himself against her. During his escape, he took Dende hostage, but was thwarted when Glorio distracted him, allowing Piccolo to knock him out. Ultimately, he was sealed into a jar by Mahrba, where he unexpectedly resides alongside King Gomah.

Trivia

His name is widely believed to be derived from "~de gesu," a sentence-ending phrase stereotypically spoken by sycophantic underlings and petty villains in Japanese fiction. Although he plotted to become the absolute ruler of the Demon Realm, his lack of physical power led to a swift defeat, ending with him being trapped inside a jar where he surprisingly lives quite comfortably alongside King Gomah.
