Overview

Best Jeanist, whose real name is Tsunagu Hakamada, is a top-ranking Pro Hero in My Hero Academia and a graduate of U.A. High School. Having reached No. 3 on the Hero Billboard Chart JP, he is widely recognized both for his hero accomplishments and as a celebrated fashion icon who has won the Best Jeanist award for eight consecutive years.

Appearance

He is a tall man standing 190 centimeters with an exceptionally long neck. He has short blonde hair styled over one of his slender blue eyes. His signature costume consists entirely of denim fabric, featuring a long-sleeved jacket with an elevated high collar that completely covers his mouth.

Personality

He possesses a strictly disciplined demeanor, demanding neatness and perfection in all matters. He maintains a distinct personal philosophy, encouraging others to keep their minds and bodies taut through metaphors involving tight denim and tailored apparel. Rather than focusing solely on defeating villains, he views hero work as a responsibility to reform and educate unruly individuals.

Abilities

His Quirk, Fiber Master, allows him to freely manipulate all types of cloth fibers. By controlling a target's clothing, he can restrain or forcibly move them, making his ability effective against anyone wearing clothes. While denim is the easiest fabric for him to command, sweatshirt fabric is difficult to control. Using carbon fiber wires, he can bind giant villains, support collapsing structures, and perform delicate emergency surgical suturing on a damaged heart. Mastering this technique requires extensive practice and immense skill.

Background

After graduating from U.A. High School, he established his own hero agency. During a workplace internship program, he selected Katsuki Bakugo in an attempt to reform the student's explosive temperament. During the battle at Kamino, he sustained severe abdominal wounds from All For One, forcing him into a lengthy medical leave. To assist Hawks's undercover operation, he temporarily faked his death before making a dramatic return during the fight against the Paranormal Liberation Front. He continued fighting through the final conflict and later assisted in post-war reconstruction.

Relationships

He served as a mentor to Katsuki Bakugo during his internship, attempting to curb the student's aggressive nature. Although initially resisted, he earned Bakugo's deep trust, becoming the first person Bakugo shared his official hero name with. He maintained a close partnership with Hawks, assisting in a staged-death plot for an undercover assignment. The villain All For One praised his high tactical instincts. Additionally, Edgeshot was his junior in the handicraft club during their school days at U.A. High School.

Trivia

His real name, Tsunagu Hakamada, connects to his background originating from Okayama Prefecture, famous as the birthplace of Japanese domestic denim. His favorite things are wolves. In 2024, the character received a real-life Special Contribution Award at the 41st Best Jeanist ceremony, where his voice actor, Hikaru Midorikawa, attended the event to accept the honor.
