Overview
Rody Soul is a central character featured in the anime film My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes' Mission. Living in a trailer house within a destitute district of the nation of Otheon, he works as a streetwise courier to support his two younger siblings. Beneath his elusive and nonchalant exterior lies a youth burdened by family hardships. After a chance encounter with Izuku Midoriya, he becomes an indispensable partner to the hero in training as both are drawn into a global threat.
Appearance
Rody is a young man with sun-kissed skin, grey eyes, and spiky brown hair bound in a high split ponytail. On his head, he wears a red headband together with sunglasses, which later change to pilot goggles. His primary attire consists of a pale blue button-down shirt adorned with fabric patches, a red-and-blue striped tie, and a tan jacket featuring an orange flower inside the left chest pocket. He wears thick grey gloves, cropped black pants with knee patches, and dark brown shoes wrapped in grey cloth to adjust their fit. Additionally, he frequently wears a red-striped hooded sweatshirt paired with blue jeans.
Personality
On the surface, Rody presents himself as an elusive, smooth-talking youth who guards his true feelings behind a nonchalant facade. Having grown up in harsh conditions, he harbors deep skepticism toward people and holds a strong distrust of heroes, abandoning his own ambitions to focus purely on survival. Despite this cynical exterior, he is fiercely devoted to his family and willingly accepts questionable courier jobs to care for his younger brother and sister. Though he struggles to express emotional honesty, his core nature remains kindhearted, responsible, and incapable of shedding a fundamental sense of morality.
Abilities
Rody possesses a Quirk called Soul, which physically manifests as a small bird named Pino measuring seven centimeters long. Pino functions as an unfiltered reflection of Rody's inner state, meaning his genuine emotions and hesitations are immediately revealed through the bird's actions whenever he attempts to lie or hide his feelings. Although Pino can transport small items, the Quirk lacks direct combat capability. However, Rody himself possesses extraordinary agility and parkour techniques. Even while wearing ill-fitting shoes, his evasion skills allow him to outmaneuver Izuku Midoriya while the latter utilizes Full Cowl.
Background
Rody originally enjoyed a stable life alongside his father, Eddie Soul, and his younger siblings, Roro and Lala. Following his mother's passing, his life collapsed when his father became involved with the cult organization Humarise and disappeared after a major tragedy. Ostracized as the family of a criminal, Rody and his siblings lost their home and were forced into a impoverished district in Otheon where heroes never came to assist. Abandoning his dreams, Rody took up courier work to support his family. His life changed upon encountering Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki. Going on the run with Midoriya restored his faith in himself and heroes, leading him to later visit Japan with his siblings.
Relationships
Izuku Midoriya is Rody's invaluable partner and friend, whose sincerity helps Rody overcome his distrust of heroes. Pino is Rody's Quirk and constant companion bird, serving as an undisguised reflection of his true feelings while sharing a deep bond with him. His younger brother, Roro Soul, and younger sister, Lala Soul, are the center of his universe, driving all his sacrifices to ensure their safety. He harbors resentment and conflicted feelings toward his father, Eddie Soul, who abandoned the family. Additionally, during a trip to Japan, he forms friendly connections with U.A. High School students including Eijiro Kirishima, Kyoka Jiro, and Mezo Shoji.
