Overview
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu is a fictional character from the manga and anime series My Hero Academia. He is a student in Class 1-B of the Hero Course at U.A. High School, operating under the hero name Real Steel. Known for his fiery hot-blooded temperament and uncompromising conviction, he aims to become a professional hero using a Quirk that transforms his body into hard metal. Although prone to charging forward without considering the consequences, his intense sense of justice and proactive leadership make him a powerful inspiring force among his classmates.
Appearance
He is physically defined by his unusually small black pupils and a wild, rugged facial appearance. Under normal conditions, he maintains a standard human form, but activating his power turns his skin and body into a silver-grey state exhibiting a bright metallic luster.
Personality
Often described as headstrong and simple-minded, he is a passionate individual driven by a deep devotion to his friends and an unwavering code of justice. He possesses an exceptional degree of recklessness that leads him to leap into lethal danger without hesitation, frequently turning his unpredictable spearhead tactics into a breakthrough for his team. While acknowledging his own lack of subtlety, he takes pride in being a U.A. student and constantly reflects on his weaknesses to push his limits further.
Abilities
His Quirk, Steel, allows him to convert parts of his body or his entire physical structure into heavy metal. This provides him with bullet-deflecting defenses and immense physical force, though its output and duration rely heavily on his body's iron supply, requiring frequent iron intake through foods such as spinach. Through intense thermal conditioning, he built extreme resistance to temperature shifts, allowing him to fight amidst intense heat or freezing conditions. His moves include Oreken, a straightforward metallic strike; Tsuno Dash Hammer, a combined assault accelerated by Tsunotori's horns; Kintetsu, a chilled form used to smash huge ice masses; and Chintetsu, where he absorbs heat until glowing red.
Background
After graduating from Anshio Junior High School, Tetsutetsu ranked eighth in the U.A. High School entrance exam and joined Class 1-B. During the U.A. Sports Festival, he finished tenth in the obstacle course and advanced to the main tournament, battling Eijiro Kirishima in the first round. He completed his workplace training alongside Kirishima under Fourth Kind. At the forest training camp, he teamed up with Itsuka Kendo to defeat the villain Mustard. In the Joint Training Arc's third match, he endured Shoto Todoroki's extreme heat to force a draw. He later interned under Fat Gum and eventually achieved the 26th position on the Japanese Hero Billboard Chart years later.
Relationships
He shares a strong mutual rivalry and brotherly friendship with Eijiro Kirishima, with whom he shares identical Quirk properties and the same birthday, often training together during work studies under Fourth Kind and Fat Gum. Class 1-B representative Itsuka Kendo appreciates his reliable nature despite his recklessness, and the two worked together seamlessly to defeat Mustard. During joint combat practice, he faced Shoto Todoroki in a head-on clash against Todoroki's elemental attacks. He also performs joint maneuvers with classmate Tsunotori Pony.
Trivia
His favorite food is spinach, which directly supports his Quirk's dietary needs, and he enjoys playing fighting video games. His full Japanese name is structurally distinct for repeating the phonetic sound "tetsu" four consecutive times, a rare character-naming design that attracted memorable commentary from staff involved in the anime adaptation.
