Dabi is a major antagonist in My Hero Academia and a high-ranking member of the Villain Alliance who later serves as a regiment commander in the Paranormal Liberation Front. Recruited by the broker Giran under the influence of the villain Stein's ideology, he operates under an alias to hide his past. In reality, he is Todoroki Touya, the long-presumed-dead eldest son of the Flame Hero Endeavor. Dabi has a slender build, light blue eyes, and messy black hair—which is actually dyed over his natural pale white hair. His body is heavily disfigured by reddish-black keloid burn scars, fastened to healthy skin with thick metallic staples and stitches, alongside hoop ear piercings. Damaged tear ducts cause blood to seep from his facial seams when highly emotional. He wears a long navy coat, later upgrading to a flame-resistant Detnerat outfit equipped with stove-like metal sleeve guards. By the story's end, his carbonized body is bound to a massive medical life-support system.
Personality
Dabi displays a cynical, detached demeanor, rarely losing his composure even in extreme situations. Highly secretive and individualistic, he maintained an emotional distance from his allies in the Villain Alliance, withholding his true identity and acting with ruthless independence. He shows utter indifference to human life, casually killing heroes, low-level criminals, and civilians alike. Beneath his cold exterior lies an all-consuming hatred for Endeavor. His actions are driven by a fanatical desire to destroy his father's career and family, regardless of the physical toll on himself.
Abilities
His Quirk, Blue Flame, allows him to generate and project azure fire of extreme temperatures from his body, surpassing Endeavor's firepower. However, because he inherited a cold-tolerant rather than heat-resistant body from his mother, prolonged usage inflicts severe self-burns. He uses Detnerat sleeve fixtures to regulate his fire output and utilizes high-level moves like Flashfire Fist. When driven to the brink of death, he subconsciously awakened an internal ice Quirk inherited from his mother, enabling him to neutralize internal heat and compress massive energy capable of a five-kilometer explosive destruction.
Background
Born as Todoroki Touya, he was raised under intense expectations from Endeavor to surpass All Might. When his body proved ill-suited for his intense flames, his father abandoned his training in favor of his younger brother Todoroki Shoto. Refusing to yield, Touya suffered a catastrophic fire at Sekoto Peak at age thirteen and was believed dead. In truth, he was rescued by All For One and Dr. Garaki, waking from a three-year coma before escaping their facility. Taking the alias Dabi, he engineered a public broadcast via Skeptic's hacking to expose his family's dark history and shatter Endeavor's reputation.
Relationships
His dynamic with his father, Endeavor (Todoroki Enji), forms the central axis of his existence, defined by a vengeful desire to erase his father's achievements. He harbored intense jealousy toward his younger brother Todoroki Shoto as the favored successor, though their final battle brought an ultimate moment of painful familial connection. Within the Villain Alliance, he initially clashed with Shigaraki Tomura before accepting his authority, while he manipulated and severely burned the hero Hawks after seeing through his double-agent operation.
Trivia
The name Dabi translates to cremation in Japanese. In the spin-off My Hero Academia: Smash!!, he is shown to be one of the few Alliance members holding a valid driver's license and struggles with heat regulation during summer weather. His favorite food is revealed to be soba, a preference he unexpectedly shares with his younger brother Todoroki Shoto.
